OK....rear axle is finished an under truck now. Here is the break down. Explorer 8.8 with 3" taken out of drivers side tube, using two passenger side stock 31 spline axles. 3.55 gears and a Auburn Pro. All new bearings and races through out and a TFS girdle. Only original brake part is the backing plates. New drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware, adjusters, lines and hose. Even have the stock parking brake cables hooked up and working. Big milestone for me and project cuz now the wheels and bed can go on.
I also made some nice upper and lower shock mounts/tabs to work with my foxbody Strange 10way adjustable drag shocks.

Ended up with a perfect patteren and .005 backlash.

Dug out the old shoes to start test fitting ....looks nice but I think the 275/50 might be to wide and short so I might try the 275/60's instead.

Finishing off chassis today. All new brakes and made all my shock mounts.

And oh wait.... you dont have a real set of 1984 SVO Mustang Comp Prep cloth seats for your Ranger?? I do!

Well rear suspension and brakes are finished. Fuel system done. Bed installed. Pushed it outside to wash it off for the first time. I got wood.

Now just a bunch of small details, finish the interior and wire the truck.

Yep whats left of the body will be goin to scrap very soon. She put up a good fight tho! I went to The Badlands bout a month ago and ended up splitting my c4 in half and catching the truck on fire. lol No real major damage but the body was just to far gone to put anymore time and money into keeping trail worthy.

The good news is after the Ranger is up and running you all will find a new project thread of mine on here. The ball is already rolling that project as I type...

A hint of whats to come:
Ranger

Lots of progress today! Love having Mondays off.....

I got the rear wheelwells all cleaned up and detailed {the white overspray was really buggin me} and battery is mounted in the bed and truck now has power. So far havent found anything that doesnt work correctly.
I got the T5 installed today and only had to make a small mod to the crossmember to get everything to bolt up.

Will have to make new hole in floor for the shifter.

I was really hating the red MSD wires and coil so I replaced them with some black Ford Motorsport wires and blacked out the MSD coil. I pulled the heaterbox back off to make more clearance for my downpipe and laid some reflective heat tape on firewall near the exhaust.

Got all the power brake crap off and almost finished the manual swap tonite. I found out the TurboCoupe clutch master wont bolt to the Ranger firewall so I need to go buy a Ranger master tomorrow then I can finish plumbing the clutch.
Got the intake back on and have one more weld to finish and the front mount to throttlebody plumbing will be finished as well.
My new Stinger Performance PIMP ecm should be here shortly then I can start wiring the motor.

And it looks like Im in need of a new driveshaft since the original is about 10" to short now. I have 60" between the axle flange and the tailshaft.

Truck is looking good. What kind of shifter arm are you going to use? The shifter position made it tougher when I was running a T5. Also cable or hydraulic?

Its hydrolic..a mix of staock Ranger and 88 Turbocoupe parts. I have a stock shifter base with some weird handle bolted to it right now. I will make my own handle but still need a good shifter base. With the SVO buckets goin in the position should work out fine once the hole is in the right spot.

Got the manual pedals all swapped in yesterday and finished the manual brakes as well. Still need to go have a new hydro line made for clutch.

I finished the intercooler pipes and BOV. Turned out pretty good I think. BOV outa sight and out of the way. I really like how it almost looks like it could of came from Ford looking like this.

And my Stinger Performance PIMP showed up!!

I found some good used MT drag radials in a smaller 235/60-15 for cheap so I decided to try these because the BFG 275/50's I had on there were just to wide. The MT's fit much better!

And this is how the battery box turned out.

So now Im waiting for exhaust stuff, shorten my new driveshaft, clutch line and start working on the engine harness this week.

Not a bad day today i guess except for one set back.

Got the clutch line on and all bled.Pedal feels goood. Seat brackets dropped off after being sandblasted and got them all cleaned and painted up. Down pipe is on with new bung and half the exhaust is hung. Waistgate all hooked up.Scored a dash pad at the junkyard yesterday that is mint to replace my cracked original.

My one snag today is looks like my new manual master cylinder needs to be replaced...It uses a different thread fitting in both lines than the lines on the truck from the power brakes. I bought $30.00 worth of fitting, adapters and lines today at the store and still couldnt find the correct combination to hook everything up. I swear one of the threads in the master had to be messed up out of the box because I could find NO standard or metric fitting that would thread in right. So instead of pulling it off and taking it back I tried to hand start the one fitting that fit the best then put a couple turns on it with a wrench and all it did was pull the helicoil right out of the master. Something so simple is making me pull my hair out!

Feeling pretty good about todays work.

Got the new seats put together and bolted in so I can start cutting floor and figure out the shifter.

Im on the look out for a tilt column now cuz its a tighter fit than I remember in these trucks and its easier than goin on a diet.

Shortened a driveshaft to fit today but pulled a rookie move and welded it up before I made sure the ears were all lined up..u-joints are out of phase now so this will just be a temp. shaft and I will have a much better one made before it see's daily driving.

Here is my junkyard fresh mint dashpad.

I also got the pinion angle set and welded up the spring perches. Then I made the mounts for the Mountianeer traction bars and welded them to the spring plates. I had to cut and sleeve them to get them at the correct length.

Next Im going to start on the interior and wiring. This will take some time to get right but Im still hoping to fire it up in the next two weeks.

All my stuff showed up Saturday to finish the exhaust so I spent half of Sunday doing that. Turned out great.
All 3" from the turbo to the tail pipe. I reused my old downpipe off my Merkur since it already had a V-band clamp on it and it fit the Ranger perfectly...just not the prettiest welds since I made it about 4 years ago. I added a flex coupler and a band clamp so the whole system comes off easy in 3 parts. I used a Dynomax Stainless Ultraflow.

From the front bumper looking rear.

All straight pipe running slightly up hill to the muffler.Clears the axle perfectly.

Done!

Now todays project.....wiring!

Slow progress the past few days....heat out in garage has been brutal and then once the sun goes down the bugs are rediculous!!

Anyway...Got the shifter in. Steeda Tri-ax with the handle on backwards. I made a new cover plate for the tunnel and got a new floor seal from 5.0 Resto.

Took a 99 Ranger center console and drilled some small holes in different places...

...then took some 2010 Mustang LED console lights and mounted them on them on the back side. Will be hooked up to the stock wiring for the lights in the original floor shifter.I can pick white, red, blue or green lighting with this but will be using the green since it will match the green lighting in my HVAC panel.

It was hard to get any good pics with them on in the light today but rest assured it looks pretty sweet with the cupholders eluminated with a touch of green.

I also gutted the dash today and started painting it black. Mounting some nice Fosgate 4" speakers in the dash and put an extra 12v port in the cubby above the glovebox.

And my new ACC carpet came....just need to install all that crap sitting on it!

And still plucking along with the wiring...

Dam I wish I could of had weather like this all last week! Got a bunch done today.

Engine harness is finished and turned out really clean. Got relays mounted under hood for fan and fuel pumps that are all wired into the PIMP. Amazing how much time you can spend doing some simple wiring if you want it to look good...I have about 14hours into just the wiring harness.

The new dash is all clean, painted and installed. Speakers are in and wired,Sirius is wired.

Guy stopped by today to look over truck and give me a quote to pinstripe the truck. Very cool guy and looks like he is going to take my ideas and lay them on by hand with paint instead of tape.

And Im waitin for my buddy John to work his magic on some custom stuff I hired him to make for me.Cant wait...you guys will like!

And finally I gotta give a huge thank you to my buddy Phil....I hired Phil also to try and come up with a sweet console/sub box and even though he wasnt happy with how this one came out I gota say I was blown away by what he came up with! Unfortunately this one didnt fit like we planned but after seeing what he can do I must say my expectations were blown away! I have no doubt once the new one is made this piece will be one of the highlights of the truck. Between my two buddies Phil and John they will make this a truely one of a kind interior that will not be easily copied!
