when i bought the truck back in July i immediately took it to my family mechanic for a complete tune-up for the hell of it (better to be safe than sorry). he said some of them were a ***** to replace. i'm glad i didn't bother taking on the job.

Any progress?

About the drivetrain, ever thought about a AWD t-case(I'm sure you have)? Would it be weaker or stronger than the 1354?

I'm sure being able to switch to 2wd is the plus about the 1354. Cause who wouldnt want to just slide some corners or do just a couple burnouts with that thing lol

It is being considered, but I would like to find one that can be taken out of awd. This thing is going to be hell on tires anyway, I dont want to run it in awd all the time and just waste more rubber trying to turn it and stuff.

I'm sure with the power he is making that he will have no problem doing that in AWD.

Why would you kill tires? A AWD transfercase is basically an open diff unless you lock it up then its a 4wd.

I liked the concept of the transfercase in my Dad's Montero Sport. Its an AWD unit then you can lock it into 4wd and it had a low range. All manual shifted too. Too bad is Mitsubishi crap and it got stuck in 4wd without my dad knowing and it fried his front diff. After it blew my Dad said, "I did notice it was acting funny when I would try and make u turns."LOL

The awd case has a clutch pack in it just like a limited slip differential. I am running wide tires with some nice camber on the front and rear, big brakes, and a decent amount of power as well. I can foresee this thing eating tires. The other thing about awd, it will consume more fuel and take more hp to operate it. Like i said, i am considering it, i just have to find what i want first

Well good luck with whatever you decide. I still want to see some 4wd donuts.

meh, my mounty doesnt wear tires any different than a 2wd vehicle; maybe slightly better since im not doin burnouts all the time
i wouldnt worry about tire wear as a factor in the AWD decision.
