as i've said before: "I'd hit that"

Yea there is a 5/8" bolt that holds the heim in place and bolts on the outside of the frame where there is another smaller standoff so everything stays lined up.

Did you click the link? There is a super hi-tech drawing of what I'm going to do about gusseting it.

I wish I had the ability to fabricate metal parts like that. From this and what I've seen in the past, you do a very good work.

You should look up my thread from two years ago when I installed my front. That will give you some idea of what you are in for with that end of the truck...

I don't have much info about a two battery set up because well its pretty simple to begin with the way I am doing it.

I am running a "Perko" switch normally used on boats. I have a four position switch, 1, 2, 1-2, OFF. Simply I can run either battery individually or both together or both off. The switch is rated at some stupid amount of amps. Simply run the (+) of each battery to the switch, run the (-) to the frame, run a (+) cable to the engine compartment and run the (-) in the engine compartment to the frame. Do I make sense or no?
Cool! I haven't seen one of those before. Where'd you get it?

I got them at a local off-road shop that deal exclusivly in desert buggies and trucks. McKenzies. Alot of the local places have them though. Not sure where to find them online. I have one that Camburg made that I'm going to be selling for $40 if anybody needs just one. I have had it bolted to my stock spot for a while now. Anyway...

Yea, don't worry about the notch. Like I have said several times already, I don't even need to have the frame there if I didn't want to. It is doing nothing right now buy providing a starting point for the tube structure that will be supporting the rear of the truck.

Stay tuned.

progress is lookin great!

im curious why you didnt go with a full clip?
with the cage you are plannin, you could have easily run 2x3x.120 from the cab back, set your own kick up height to eliminate the need for that notch, and gained a ton of torsional rigidity compared to open c-channel.

You mean back-half it? Or are you talking about a one-piece front clip?

I didn't backhalf it because it would have taken too much time. I wouldn't have used rectangle tube for it, it would have been round and an entire tube chassis in the rear. Why rebuild the frame if it is already there?

Torsional stability and rigidity arn't even going to be an issue once the tubework is completed. There is just something about still having a frame that I like. I know to many people that have backhalfed their trucks and wished they hadn't for whatever reason, be it that it took too long, didn't turn out right, ect.

So that is why.

NIce!

So that is enough triangulation that you should not have any side to side movement?

how did you know how much angle to make the lowers? or even the upperS?

btw are the lowers going to hit that body mount?

Should be enough triangulation, I know it seems a little off, but there are so many trucks running this set up and working well. We thought it was odd from the beginning that this set up uses equal length uppers and lowers. But we are going to see how it works!

Setting the angle was easy. The geometry was already set buy using their (Giant) link mounts. The upper mount shares a bolt with the lower mount so they are set that way. The angle is determined by where you want your instant-center, I would explain it but it could take a while. Alot of people would argue that the lowers should be lower on the frame, but I like the way this one is without having more stuff hanging down. If you have CAD I can send you a drawing that shows different mounting points and how they affect things like driveshaft plunge, pinion angle change, and where the instant center is. Basically I bought them that way so I wouldn't have to worry about all this crap... lol

Yes, they do hit the body mounts. When I take all this stuff off to finish the welding the body mounts have a date with Mr. Plasma. I'm also worried about the crossmember under the back of the cab, it may need to come out too.

Ive been told that cross member does not do anything anyway. not structural.

I have CAD, send it if you could.

I like it, have a link to that axle kit? I'm just curious.

The geometry looks fine to me, I was thinking of something different.
