New and need help
Hi everyone. Im new here. Not a mechanic in any sense of the word but I can do SOME things. Any advice you can give is appreciated.
I have an 03 Ranger Edge 3.0, 5 spd manual extended cab. Im the original owner. It has 165k on it. The body still looks less than a year old. I have stored it in a garage for 5 years because I moved away and had another vehicle. I finally got it up here to where I am and am ready to put it back on the road.
What tips would you guys give on what to replace, particular order of checking things etc.
I obviously am replacing plugs, fuel filter, oil, air filter, antifreeze, battery, cleaned the MAF, and replaced the coil pack . Im going to run some seafoam (as I see it recommended in MANY posts on here).
Anything you guys can offer up no matter how basic (my skill sets) is truly appreciated. Im very excited to get back on the road. Its a beautiful truck. I thank you in advance.

Welcome to the site. You're on the right track but I would start with the basics, fluids and battery. Then as find out how the vehicle is running. If it was garaged the hole time late model cars/trucks store better than the classics.
You didn't mention how many miles are on it. Also, if it has been a while (mileage wise) since tune-up items had been done then it would be good to do those.

Would definitely change out / bleed brakes fluid and system as brake fluid has a tendency to attract moisture when sitting for long time periods.
While your changing out coolant, it is the perfect time to install new hoses, most important being radiator hoses and heater hoses. New thermostat wouldn't hurt either.

it has 165k miles. I had done a tune up a year prior to garaging it. I got a fuel pump yesterday so I'm dropping that in today. I got it to fire up with starting fluid and it sounded perfect....then shut off so I know its still got it.
I do believe new brakes are in order. What are your thoughts on tires. Do you think they will need replacing just from time wise? I know you can't see them but 5 years of sitting with pretty decent conditions. What are your thoughts?
Since your the original owner, you'd know when/if brakes were replaced. If pads/shoes are still in good shape I wouldn't worry about replacing unless their due. Pads/shoes don't deteriorate from just sitting.
Tires on the other hand, will, over a period of time. When did you replace the tires last ? If their only 5-6 years old, show no cracks on sidewall, and truck has been stored in garage out of sun, then your probably OK.
Lots of differing info/opinions about tire age/longevity, but most manufacturers advise around 7 years is life of tire compound. On my E-450 based motorhome I replace the tires at 5 years as it sits for longer periods of time And I don't
want to risk a blowout with a 7 ton rig.
But a light duty truck like your Ranger...if it were me, and tires in good cond....I wouldn't replace unless their worn or cracked or 7-8 years old.
Your peace of mind is a big consideration......any doubt, then replace them.
