I have heard that paypal payments are being siphoned off in the "ether" by aliens who are funding their invasion of earth by this method. It's one of the major complaints about paypal on the conspiracy theory websites. I'm not worried though since I'm an alien collaborator -- although I just do it so I can get access to their junkyards. I'm trying to figure out how to adapt their anti-gravity lift generators to my Ranger. It's a bit much even for me though. So far, all I've done is eliminate the need for a jack to change the tires. I also still have the problem of, once it's in the air, getting the truck going forward and I'm going to have to look for a thruster. Problem is they are a bit pricey even in alien junkyards.

But, I'm getting off topic, sorry...

lol.. i saw the Subscriptions page thing a day or so ago, and had no idea what that was, or that you could pay now. I'm actually glad to see Christian is finally allowing donations to be made! We tried to see if he wanted them a few months ago, but were told its alright, he didnt need it. I think the new software and layout of the site seems promising. It'll take a little getting used to again though. Anyway, the whole "donations" situation thing couldnt have gone any other way.. people were going to say something about it no matter what... you could have made it a simple dollar donation, you'd still hear about! like many others have said, i donated because i wanted to owe it to christian.. the extra space, stickers, avatar adj.. and other stuff is all a plus!!! thanks again!!!!

people wanted to donate before, and get nothing in return... this way i can at least give something back so i don't feel i am receiving a handout... and members donate equally this way... no 5 dollar donations, no 50 dollar donations... just a small amount... and i try to give something in return that i see as an equal or greater value to show my appreciation..

I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't upload a large avatar... I just found this thread. I guess I have to say I'm mildly irritated by this whole thing. If people want to contribute, great. If Christian wants to give them a sticker for their time, even better. But the whole avatar thing seems to divide the user base into two classes, and apparently I'm in the lower "freeloader" class. It doesn't make me feel too good. It makes me wonder if in the future the thoughts, suggestions and recommendations of "non-paying" members will be taken less seriously.

The only good I can see coming out of this is that Christian nixed the "VIP forum." I guess its one thing to get a big "look how important I am" avatar, but if there was legitimate site-content off-limits to those who don't pay for it, I'd probably walk away from this site.

I don't feel any different, but I know what you are talking about Brian. It could possibly make one feel like he/she is not 'good' enough to pay to 'belong' to a site, so therefor someone might see you [a non-paying member] as not good enough to give out props, or tech-advice.

But look at it this way...Most of the members on here already know each other either personally or from the boards anyhow, and we know who really knows their stuff about their respective topics. I don't know jack about audio installs so I stay out of that forum. However, I do know about some how-to's, suspension and other things, so I nose around in there and give my advice where I can to help.

It doesn't amtter the size of the avatar...it's how you use it. WHOA! I mean, it doesn't matter about the avatar size, it's the content in the post, and we all, for the most part, know that.

I hope I didn't come off harsh, or anything, I am NOT meaning to. I don't think I did. ok, enough second-guessing :D

There are other forums out there that accept donations.
Most all make mention of this in the user or avatar area.
This, like the format change should not be such a big deal.
You do not have to contribute to participate here and are not closed out of any discussion, sections or threads.

What is amazing is that each time the avatar issue comes up it is from someone trying to put in a larger photo.
Obviously they want or like the larger avatar.
A confusing issue is the people frequenting this site the most, have the biggest problem with the contribution.
It’s just a contribution, not mandatory - why all the bitching.
If you don’t recognize segregation it ceases to exist.
Sounds like a load of sour grapes to me.

I agree 100%. Some of the smartest, most well known people one RPS have NO avatar....so do they quit posting and pout b/c they feel "left out"? Of course not.

As Swoop said, I know almost everyone on this board (not personally, but in a Ranger kind of way). Therefore, I don't see it at all as a "He's a freeloader" type thing. Some people just don't like the bigger avatars, so they wouldn't even load one if they could. Just because someone has a smaller avatar doesn't neccessarily mean he or she is not a contributor.

I'm young, with a good job and a decent yet manageable debt load, so chipping in $10 to a forum I use DAILY wasn't an issue whatsoever. I realize though that the situation is different for some poeple.

In other words, you could have a 300x300 avatar, but if your an idiot who just likes to start **** on a forum, then it's pretty easy to see through that.

**EDIT**

And LILBLUE....I agree completely.

I'll be donating, to help the site. I really cant stretch out my tachometer to whatever the bigger size is...but I'll be donating to help the site, not myself. I just have to find time out of my busy schedule to find out where to donate! lol.
