I agree with both sides. Mine is selfish so I can continue to surf the site at work and white is better for that. But I also respect Christians point of style and recognition. Either way is cool I'll deal.

the only way i would even consider changing is if someone can find another style that is equally impressive. i won't settle for some typical crap phpbb board.

in my opinion, i have not seen another php style set up in a more efficient manner...

I don't think you should have more skins. The only reason to have a new skin would be to just have something to play around with. Adding skins is nothing but trouble with a modded phpbb board. When you add new skins, you have to mod each skin that you have added, seperately.

I like the blue skin, it isn't overpowering, and it looks great. I think it is the best looking blue skin I have seen for phpbb. Great going guys!

This should be the default, and 95% of all users won't even know where to look to change the skin.

But it would still be nice to have the option available to those who need/want it, to have a more generic skin. It won't change how the website is viewed as a whole, or by the collective public, because most of them will see the default (black & grey) and won't even know where or how to change it.

I am on the computer all day either work or at home and the darker background is seomthing I really love. I understand what you are saying about changing and having trouble, but if people aren't able to see this from work or it's bac on the eyes that shouldn't stop them fomr coming back to us. We have to be flexible or try to be for everyone.

Christian, try inverting the colors... or making it white and black? kind like this pic:

That looks pimp, and changing the colors around is a good idea. On one of my site, I have skin options, but I don't have to mod each individual skin by itself for everything I already have installed (IPB, not phpbb). It would be a plus for members, but time consuming on the admins.

ideas always seem like great ideas at first...

a php skin is not like a single jpg... you can't jsut invert everything...

if i add a skin, i probably won't mod it and it will be a very very basic skin....

not that i actually want the site to be "known" by it's layout... obviously i want it to be known for the people and the enthusiasm and knowledge for trucks that they have... i just want it to be something... that is consistent...

you see that blue background on g-e and you know it is g-e... you come to be used to it...

sure, i might add a "work safe" skin... but it won't be as fancy as the "default" and it may lack in some features... i don't really want it to be an appealing skin... i can give it the colors you want, but i want this to be the board that people use most frequently...

(also, i will keep thinking about this... maybe i will make an amazing board in dark colors and an amazing board in light colors) who knows...

but you see we are listening here, guys...

The only problem with adding new skins after you have already applied mods, is that you have to hard code each mod into each skin that you added after you did the mod.

Some skins also are written differently, and there is a good amount of troubleshooting and hard coding involved. Sometimes you get lucky, and most are written like subsilver.

If you need to contact me, when I am online my aim is on because I use that for the ARC chatroom.

AIM id=gruviin

Just message me anytime.

Christian, instead of doing this stuff why don't you have small little asignments for people to help out and contribute to the site?

Gruven has already offered and I'm sure other people would to, I tihnk it would build even a stronger bond between all of us if it was an ENTIRE group effort

except only sk0t and i will ever have ft access to the site, and i want anything site related to filter through us...

in the end the responsibility falls back on us, so any help... i really want it to be us and someone else... not just someone else doing it... i have to learn at some point, too, how to do these things...

if someone wants to make a cool index page or a cool flash intro for the site, feel free to and i will look into adding it...

i just don't think we need to be making too many changes just yet... the site is still a baby site...

let's wait til it is a toddler to change it up...

it would be a nice addition to the site to be able to chose your own color scheme.. sort of personalize it to your own preference, but at the end of it all, this is Christian's site, and Christian's design.. it should be up to him if he wants to take the time to change everythin around.. im fine with the setup as it is right now
