What do you think of the site?

What would you like to see changed?

What would you like to see added?

What would you like to see more of?

What would you like to see less of?

Any and everything you think about the site can be posted here. Don't worry about offending me or anyone else, just post whatever you feel fits in with this topic.

What Do You Think Of Ranger-Forums.com

Not fond of the color scheme - easier to see dark letters on a light background - some of us work at computers all day long and the eyes do get tired toward the end of the day.

I visit quite a few other forums, and I can easily say that I enjoy this one as much -- if not more -- than the others.

I understand what Bird is saying, but for me the dark background helps with eye fatigue.

One thing I love is the upload speed of the pages. I also really like the fact of having few enough members to where there is a sense of "community" to this site.

I dearly love RPS, but I also know that there is probably a good 60% of the members that I've never even talked to.

Seems like you're doing really well with this place Christian, keep it up!

I give it a 10.

I really enjoy not having posting problems, like on another Ranger web-site I visit.

The only small complaint I have can't really be helped, but I'll stick around and see what happens

I give the site a 10. Like everybody else says this site is great. The speeds are great, there is no lack of forums to put topics in. The only thing is the dark background. It's not so much the eye strain just harder to hide at work...but thats my problem not yours. Ha. I also like that the site is small and has that "Cheers" type vibe to it. You know "Everybody knows you name" that is great. The only thing that would lower the score I would give is the lack of technical stuff and help. I know when I have a real technical question, not to expect an answer from here or a couple other sites for that matter. Doesnt stop my asking it, I just dont expect that answer. I'm sure as this place grows and gets more experianced, older memebers this will the place. Keep up the good work, get some tech sections up, and dont work to hard, its just the internet! I dont know what I would do without this site.

As a suggestion I would like to see the "View Post Since Last Visit" page arranged by category instead of being random post.

The site is definately awesome and fun but he technical Q's are limited. Luckily the truck is running fine now so I have no Q's. I also agree to arranging the new topics by topic. That is it.

I really like this site, Christian! I also give it an 8, but I have this problems!! I'm not too good as for alot of personal things going on this site!! I'm used to helping people with their trucks trouble shooting things!! Also no offence but the gen-edge has alot of truck talk rather than personal talk!! I don't mean it in a bad way but it's just different for me, so takes me bit more time to adjust is all.. I hope my opinion don't offence this!! Thanks in advance..

Ability to change styles

I dabble in php, and have modded a few phpbb. I also work with IPB, and XMB. I have worked with Nuke, and a few other cms's. I am learning SQL, but getting the hang of it really well.

I told christian if he needs any help with the php aspect, just let me know, I would be more than happy to help.

Oh, and to save you some time, you could always use the MOD Installer made for phpbb2.

If you need anything, just pm me, I check thse site daily.

I love this site (heck I got a sticker for it with in the first month of it being up ) I dont mind the backround, but I understand how it is hard to cover it up (I do it at school sometimes, but the teachers dont seem to mind Im here) I also love the "Cheers" feel of it like Jason mentioned. Its very family like here and I love that. I feel like I can ask a question and not feel like an idiot and get eyes rolled at me like sometimes happens on other sites. All my time spent on the computer Im here (even when Im at school :D) and I would have it no other way. Im proud to be a member here and love to tell other ranger owners in my area about it. To let them know they are welcome here. Simply put I LOVE IT HERE!! I give it a 10

The reason there isn't alot of "tech" chat here, is MOST of the people here are from other boards. Most if not all of our technical questions have been answered for us, weeks or months ago somewhere else...

If you have specific things you want to know, or are having problems, ask your questions. We don't know everything, but we know where to find the answers :)

This is why there is alot of personal type topics, and less truck stuff. ASK THE QUESTIONS, and the tech stuff will come to you...

There is a mod that makes all of the posts that the user hasn't read active until the user reads them. I suggested that in another thread. It doesn't separate the topics out, but it will at least leave them marked until you do read them.

I have a copy of that mod on my machine.

There is also a categories heirarchy mod that may or may not separate the topics in the "view post since last visit". I am not sure. I will look into that one, and see if I can't change around some stuff.

I gave the site an 8, I don't wanna give it a 10 off the bat because I think it really has to prove itself. We have gotten a nice small community with new people joining but still small enough for everyone to know each other pretty much.
I'm sure once we get some more tech info and more posts in other categories other than OFF TOPIC, we should ahve another vote in about 6 month and see what everyone thinks then.
To all the mods and admin, keep up the good work and as always, please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Thanks,

i am hesitant to do any mod i don't get from the php board. i do not want to mess this site up...

and the tech stuff guys... we don't have tech, cuz ya'll don't ask it or bring it up.

you want to see more tech questions? ask them... get newbies to join...

tech stuff doesn't pop out of nowhere...

i think too many people depend on other boards for tech stuff and dont ask it here, and give us a chance to show our knowledge...

we know alot, here, among our memberbase... which is also rapidly growing...

anyway, keep the comments rolling in...

Looking for more George Clinton's style music

Do not take this the wrong way, because I am only trying to help.

You say you would like some input from experienced php guys, but only apply mods that are on the phpbb site? Most of those mods are submitted by guys who change stuff on their boards and then just submit the mod. The phpBB is open source, and that means that anyone can write a mod and submit it. Most of the mods on there have just been tested to see if they work, not verified by the staff. If you back up all of your files, you won't have any problems. I understand where you are coming from though, as you don't know me from adam. You have no reason to trust what I suggest, so that is all that they are, suggestions.

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=153335 - Categories Heirarchy MOD

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=158578 - Keep Unread Flags MOD

I got both of them from the phpbb site, and they have both been discussed.

I am sorry if I come on too strong, I was just trying to help. If you don't want it, just tell me, and I will stop suggesting things completely.

Went mudding again (no 56k)

I really enjoy this site a lot. I am a member on three other Ranger forums and this one surpasses them IMO. Two of the other sites are simply so large that new members get lost in the mix. In addition the other sites are not as friendly I guess. As this forum grows, I believe more and more technical stuff will show up.

I enjoy this site a lot. I'm a member on two other boards, and i've allowed one of them to drop to me not posting.

Ranger-Forums is great, but i do admit people need to get out there and start posting tech stuff. I've asked a few of them myself so far.. but there needs to be more.

no no no... not at all...

when i have some spare time, i wanted to talk to you about modding a few things on the site... like getting embedded links like: Ranger-Forums to show up red or something(right now i have made them white) and have a line or be bold or italic...

when we did it before, the line of code applied it to almost every link on the man forum page... as they are all embedded...

there are alot of things i would love to ask you for help with...

i am very open to your help, just want to see examples and verification of anything i add to the site...
