Too many sub-forums

There's a fair number of subforums here, and combining a few would make things a bit more efficient.

For example, the 4 different engine tech subforums could easily be combined into one general engine forum with zero negative results.

Just something I figured to bring to your attention.

I second that notion.
If forums can't be combined, is there anyway we can pick what shows up on our portal? like, i may not want to see the Buy/Sell ads. and instead replace that with the Off-topic

I like the way this forum is set up over other ones. If sub forums were combined threads could more easily be lost.

I do like the idea of having a customizable portal, but that probably exceeds to administrators abilities. I think since forums are like templates, I don't kow how much liberty they have to modify that kind of thing

Im a fan of organization. it makes it easier to search the forums is there are more sub-forums. for instance you have a 3.0 and you are searching for a specific problem to do with them you go to the 3.0 tech sub-forum instead of having to search through threads for 4cyl, 4.0, and V-8 motors.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 8530)

I don't mind the subforums on the regular site, but they are a bit cumbersome on the mobile site. I'd like to see that streamlined a bit, if possible.

I like the organization of being able to just look at 4 cylinder information. I can scan through that section easily knowing everything is talking about the 4 cylinder engines in Rangers.

Yeah but on the same thinking there are different 4 cylinders depending on the year and they all are grouped in that forum. a lot of the recent posts on the 4 cylinder forum are about 80s Rangers. more often than not people aren't even talking about the 2.5L when they post in the 4 cylinder section since it was only offered for 3 years so I personally don't bother to look on that forum. i think there are few enough threads on the 3 engine forums (not including the V8 forum, that should be separate) that they could be combined.

I don't know about that. When going through engine posts, I only look at the 4.0L ones. Why? Because I don't care about a 3.0L or a 2.3L, don't have one. It can't be causing that big of a problem. If you want to move things around, do it in the sections not related to trucks or troubleshooting them. Bye.

separate is good. i like knowing that once i'm in the 4.0L section, it's 4.0L talk. i sometimes skim titles and i don't wanna mislead or be mislead if i post something that isn't irrelevent to another member.

On that same thinking there are parts from the 2.3L that will work with the 2.5L. Are you saying within the 4 cylinder section you want to add more sub-forums? That forum is fine the way it is kid. I do not care if you look in there or not. Some of the same ideas can be used on one 4 cylinder to another one such as turbo setups.

I agree and disagree. Its been working like this since 2004, so why change it?

Also I typically always use the new posts button, I like to see what changed and what I missed in the last hour. I never really look in sections by themselves unless I am looking for info and I know exactly where i want to look anyway. If not I use the search function which works wonders. :)

I think it works fine as is. I don't see a need to change anything.

Search?
like, look for something?
on your own? without asking?
bah.

No but really. i don't think the subfourms are bad, i'm like beard and i use the new posts everyonce and a while. but i still think a custom homepage would be neat.

The only thing I really have a problem with is the project logs. Like say for instance i'm doing a v8 swap and then doing a sas, then a cage, then on board air, etc etc. Instead of it all being in one thread like I have it on my local 4x4 forum and pirate, it is going to be spanned across a few different threads. Its not a major problem, just my thoughts while we're on topic. I should have put my v8 swap in the project log, not v8 tech, but its too late to change it now.

I too think it is Ok the way it is.

My computer has a main Ranger Folder then sub-folder for each section of the vehicle and some of the sub-folders have sud-sub-folders… LoL.
This method makes it faster and easier to find the exact file I want or need.

Yeah I think I see what everyone is saying about the 3.0 and 4.0 forum because there are only 2 versions of each of those and they are completely different than the I4s. The 4 cylinder forum is just confusing because there are quite a few different I4s. I know the 2.3L Limas and 2.5L Limas are the same but the 2.3L DOHC is different and the 80s 2.0L and 2.3L have differences as well. I know they are carbed at least for awhile. Plus there isn't even a 2.9/2.8L forum.

God, I really frikin hate you. I didn't ask if you cared whether I looked in it or not. I was just saying that as far as sub-forums go the 4 cylinder forum, in my opinion, is too broad because of all the different 4 cylinders. Now get off my ***, it's getting ridiculous having everything I post an opinion on get picked apart.

Lay off the kid would you.
Lets not even begin with what we could rip into you about.
If the kid wants to stay here and learn about his Ranger, he should be able to without getting flamed.
