hey bill what did they end up costing, did you get a ford discount. I think my drive side is starting to go, so I am going to go ahead and replace both of them.

why would 33's or bigger tires wear them out faster?

the extra weight the offset of the tires causeing more stain on it. its anything over stock is causing more strain on it then what it was designed for stock, its the give and take of modding stock things wear out faster for the better look/performance

I've checked at a few parts stores in the past. Nobody but the Ford dealer listed the one-piece PS UCA that is used on the 2003+. Some sell the 2-piece PS UCA for 98~2004 but it is much more expensive than the 1-piece DS UCA ($175 vs $105).

I stopped at a parts store today and their computer lists MOOG UCAs in both the 1-piece and 2-piece style, both for the PS of a 2003~2004 4x4 but nothing for the driver side at all! In an effort to get to the truth, the counter guy called MOOG but they told him that the two piece was for the DS only. Argh!

thats where i got mine.

the 2 peice for the passenger side is beine phased out. they are replacing them with the one peice cesign and are avaiable
Thanks Mark but from what was posted above they have a different shaft size for the ball joint. I dont know this for sure but thats what is above. And Bob that is the same run around that I got, they could get one side and note the other.

I contacted RockAuto.com and they could get ACDelco replacements but there is a 12 day shipping delay, lets just say I dont wanna wait that long.

I would but I have already ordered and committed to the ones from Ford. I shall call him to get prices though. Thanks.

Mark's info is right on the money. I stopped by S&H and they have the left and right 1-piece MOOG UCAs in stock. As stated, they are the same parts for Ranger A-arm 4x4s and 2WD Edge and the numbers are those that Mark posted. The only negative is the price - about $145 each retail.

Edit: Maybe I ticked someone off at S&H the first time I talked to them. The next time I went in, I got a different counter guy and the price was $115 and $120 for the PS and DS 1-piece arms.

So Moog list one control arm part number and its for the one side. Are both control arms the same as you would just order two of the same????? Its a little late now but oh well.

Becuase the joints are to the point of if I dont replace them there is a good chance my wheels is going to lay out flat on the ground. Everyone I talked to said that MOOG did not have one for the one side so thats why I ordered through Ford. I also dont have any free weekends coming up soon so it needs to be done. Oh and they were 60 dollars less a peice.

No, the right and left are different but the 4x4 torsion bar UCA's and the 4x2 torsion bar UCA's are listed with the same pair of numbers that Mark posted.

thsi is really confusing, mine is a two piece design on the PS and one piece on the drivers side.

so these numbers will work on both 2wd and 4wd torsion bar rangers whether mine are 2 piece or one piece?

The DS UCA has been one piece since the introduction of the torsion bar suspension in 98. Ford switched from the 2-piece UCA to one piece UCA on the PS sometime in 2003MY. My 2003 has a 5/03 build date and it has one piece on both sides. The 2-piece has the advantage of allowing more independence between the caster and camber adjustment. The one piece arm is simpler and cheaper.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, when you buy an aftermarket replacement part for the balljoint on the PS, you only get one part of the two piece arm, the part that actually carries the ball joint.

FWIW, I just did a Google search on the part numbers and this appears to be the situation. Note that these numbers are for with Rangers with torsion bar suspension ONLY (98+ 4x4, 2000 Trailhead, 2001+ Edge).

DS one-piece UCA 98~2006:
(MOOG K8708T):

UCA w/replaceable/greasable ball joint

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PS one-piece UCA 2003 1/2~2006:
(MOOG K80068)
UCA w/replaceable/greasable ball joint
Similar appearance to K8708T above but with slightly different ball joint offset.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PS 2-piece style ball joint carrier only 98~2003 1/2
(MOOG K8710T) :

Carrier w/replaceable/greasable ball joint
Note: this part is discontinued and may not be available. The entire 2-piece PS UCA assembly can be replaced by the 1-piece K80068.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lower ball joint only 98+
Greasable, fits DS and PS
(MOOG K8695T)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Outer tie rod ends
Greasable, fits DS and PS
(MOOG ES3461)
