New plugs/wires, truck now misfires...

2004 Ranger 3.0, had a miss on #6, truck has 100k, replaced all plugs, wires & coil. Gapped to .056.

Truck now misses badly, gives errors of miss on 1,3,5 & lean on one bank (forgot which). Traced wires multiple times, no dice. According to all sources I can find, cylinder number order goes like such.

front >

654
OOO
OOO
321

On the coil it goes like such:

465
OOO
OOO
321

Has anyone ever had this problem, and are there any Rangers with an alternative firing order?

Cheers!

My 03 3.0 calls for a plug gap of .042-.046 . Close the gap down on the plugs.

According to my underhood tag, my gap is 1.29-1.45mm. (.050-.057) gap. I just pulled the plugs, grounded them and observed spark.

I found the problem, which was pretty unique...

The engine is timed 180 degrees out. I realized when I had replaced the plug wires that I had pulled them from the wrong side of the coil, and swapped them later thinking I had messed up. I hadn't. My coil is wired exactly opposite the diagram, hence the reason it wouldn't run.

For those not familiar with it, you cannot install the coil backwards by accident. I purchased the truck 2nd hand, but it only had 30k on the clock so its rather unlikely to have had that kind of work before I got it. However, also unlikely that the factory would send out a truck like that, but...

Hopefully nobody else will have this problem. If you do, now you at least know its a possibility.
