Value of a salvaged 09 xlt

Hello all I’m new to the forum I had gotten into a 2 car accident awhile back about 3 years ago (rear ended and the car pushed me into another car in front of me) after awhile going back and fourth with the insurance company’s I had gotten an estimate and the insurance decided they want to total out my 09 xlt because the frame was slightly bent in the back (around rear tire) and it would be a liability to do anything but to replace the whole frame..my truck is totally driveable and able to pass smog (I’ve been driving it since is just more bumpy now) so they want to pay me out around $12,000 to total out the truck or $10,000 (and I can keep my truck) my question is... is a 09 xlt (salvaged title now) even worth buying back for the extra $2000 or should I just take the whole $12,000 and buy another car? They estimated the damage at around $7100 and the only reason why they’re paying the $12,000 is because that was the value of the XLT at the time of the accident... thanks all answers appreciated!

I'd take the $10,000 and keep the truck. No doubt about it. Either drive it like it is, have a good body guy pull the frame, or buy another driver and take your time and replace the frame. Book value is still VERY high on older rangers. It's worth it to fix it.

Resale on a salvage title is crap. So it's complicated. If you wanna keep the truck and drive it till the wheels fall off take the 10 grand and run. If you plan on trading it in or re-selling it one day it's something to seriously consider cause it will be worth way below blue book. Personally if the truck still runs and drives legally and without issue I'd take that 10 grand and go have a party. But I buy vehicles for life.

Yes, if you keep it don't expect to sell it for much down the road, as said it will have a salvaged title now, since it was "totaled" by insurance company.

If frame is tweaked then get a price on straightening, newer machines for this can do a remarkable job of getting it back to spec, or at least to the point where a 4-wheel alignment is doable.

Then drive it like "a rented mule", lol.

Other things to consider when a vehicle is in an accident while engine was running.
There is a lot of rotating mass in an engine and automatic trans, even when stopped.
Sudden forward and/or back motion will put stress on bearings, seals and thrust washers.
So over the long term there could be complications from that.

yup - ive seen rear end accidents bust motor mounts up front before. Amazing how forces can travel thru and around structures and fubar the exact opposite end.
