4.0 Intake Compatibility

Hello,
I am replacing the engine in my 2004 Ranger with the engine from a 2004 explorer (both 4.0L SOHC, VIN E). I know that the stock intake manifolds are different for each vehicle, but I was wondering if they are interchangeable. The engine is being delivered tomorrow, and I want to have as many parts ordered as early as I can.

Thanks!

You will want to use your Ranger intake so wiring harness will match up.
Yes, they are interchangeable in that they both "fit" a 4.0l SOHC engine.

Change the Knock sensor while intake is off, common failure on these engines and not expensive, but hard to get to with intake in place.

Give the thermostat housing a good look, these can crack and leak

Also always change rear main seal on any engine before putting it back in
