2007 4.0 missing/sputtering under load
2007 4.0 missing/sputtering under load
Guys, sorry in advance for the long post. So I recently bought the ranger in the configuration I’ve been looking for a long time. It’s a 2007 regular cab short bed 4x4 4.0 5 speed. Anyways drove it for a few weeks all stock and it ran just fine. It had 124k on it and needed a few things, new front wheel hubs l, new shocks, serviced the diffs and transfer case, changed engine oil, etc. Running fine at this point. A few weeks ago I put a K&N intake on it, and got a superchips flash pack for it to adjust for the 285/70/17s I put on it ect. Took it out for a drive and it constantly missed and sputters under load. So I used the flash pack to set it back to stock and put the stock air intake back on, still sputtering/missing. It idled totally smooth, and revs smooth holding at any rpm in neutral l. Since then, I have done the following: cleaned the MAF, put new plugs and wires on, put a new ignition coil on, changed the fuel filter, drained out all the old fuel and put new fuel in, searches several times for vacuum leaks, and finally just changed crank and cam position sensors. All the new parts I’ve put on are motorcraft parts. I really am at a loss of what else it could be. Just wondering if you guys had any advice. It starts up just fine, idles smooth, revs smooth, no weird internal noises or anything. No trouble codes since I’ve had it other than the typical P1000. Just not sure what else to do.
Reads like the flash may be wrong and is lingering, and you are not able to clear the bad code loaded on to the computer
What model flash system are you using?
And did it work for speedometer?
Unplug MAF sensor and drive it a bit, you WANT the CEL to come on and you want a MAF Code to come up, a sanity check for computer
Since it REVs OK but can't handle a load then computer is getting bad data OR it is misreading data
Does it run OK cold(open loop) and only start acing up after 3 or 4 minutes(closed loop)?

I’m using a superchips flashpaq model 1845 F5. I never did check to see if it fixed the speedo since I put it back to stock right away. It seems to have the issue wether it is in closed loop or open loop just the same. I did accidentally forget to plug in the connector on the new coil when I installed it and I did get a code for “ignition secondary circuit A”. I’m also thinking the flash may have screwed up my pcm but I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do about it short of taking it to a dealership for that. It seems to have the same issue with any of the tunes from the Flashpaq on it or the stock tune loaded. But, the moment I used it to flash the pcm is when this all
started.
started.
Does flashpaq 1845 F5 have any tech support, email is best because most telephone tech support is a guy(or gal) just reading questions off a computer screen, diagnostic flow chart, which is OK but not the best help
Email can be passed around to different techs until someone may have seen problem before
Do not tell them about other changes, just that engine started running poorly after the flash and reflashing back to Stock didn't change anything
2007 does have PATS in the instrument cluster, not in the PCM but changing anything in the PCM can effect the HEC(hybrid electronic cluster) which in turn can effect PCM, lol, not a PATS issue at all, but could be related to the newer link between cluster and PCM
2004 and up Rangers have the HEC and it is "married to" PCM and vise versa, they "handshake" with key on and compare data, like odometer, both have odometers and they must match
HEC info here, cool setup: http://www.terminator-cobra.com/Hybr...%20Cluster.pdf
