2001 Ranger door unlock and flashing lights question?

Hi: I have a 2001 Ranger XLS that I'm unsure as to whether I have a problem or not? When I use the key FOB to unlock the door the tail and parking lights dont flash. Is this normal?. As with most cars, when you press the unlock button on the key FOB I would expect to see the "here I am" light flash sequence. The doors lock and unlock just fine. Just no flashing lights. Can someone advise as to whether this is normal? And if it's not normal, any hints on what to look at?

Welcome to the forum

Go here to get your owners manual: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/

2001 manual
Look on page 82, tells about keyless entry fob use

Says the interior light should come on with Unlock, no exterior lights
And you can get horn honk and lights to flash on Lock IF.....you press the Lock button twice

So if you can't find your Ranger then press Lock twice as you walk around

Many don't like the horn honk and light flash, I know I don't lol, which is why it takes two presses of the Lock button so you have a choice
Our neighbor gets home at 2-3am, and his non-Ranger does that HONK every morning, not a fan, how hard is it to push a lock button on the door as you get out...................????

Thanks RonD: well that explains it!

So the answer is that the lights don't flash when pressing the key FOB unlock button. They will, however, flash when pressing the key FOB lock button twice. Seems kind of backwards but it is what it is! Thanks again!

I would call than "forward" not backwards

If you are walking to your car and press the unlock you will know if its unlocked when you get there
If you are walking away AND you want confirmation it IS Locked you can get the lights and "beep" if you want with double press

If it did it for both, like many cars, then you could actually unlock the car while you are walking away, and "think" it was locked, and I am sure that happens

Keyless entry story
My wife called me from a parking lot in a panic
"I can't unlock the doors, BUTTON IS NOT WORKING!!!!"

I said "did you try the key in the door?"
Long silence
"Never mind", she hangs up
I changed the battery in the fob when she got home
