So, earlier today, the worst happened, and my Ranger was fairly heavily damaged in an account. Essentially, it flipped onto its side through a combination of my own human error and environmental factors (one car, nobody hurt) That being said, the damage that resulted was surprisingly light for what happened. After looking it over, it appears to be mechanically sound, through its bodywork was quite badly damaged. Basically, I'm asking for anyone who has experience in this situation to be able to give me a ballpark on what I'm dealing with here, for costs for repairs and the like. The truck is a 1999 model. From what I can see, the passenger door and fender need to be replaced, as both are damaged beyond repair. The cab structure on that side is dented fairly badly, and the bed is damaged in the forward corner. Here is a picture. The back tire is simply a bent rim, not anything more serious as far as I can tell. Should I simply give up on it and try to find a new one? Damage to the Ranger. Back wheel is purely a bent rim
its gonna cost a lot of money. It doesn't look like much compared to the severity of the accident it was in, but that amount of bodywork would cost thousands, in other words your truck is totaled. If thats a low mileage motor/drivetrain I would just find a clean body/frame and swap your motor into it, it would be cheaper
I would either sell it "as is", basically a parts car, the frame "might be" tweaked, would cost a bit to laser test that
OR
See if you can find a 1998-2000 Ranger with good body and bad engine and/or trans, and use your 1999 as the parts car yourself
It would need to be same engine size and trans type for easiest swap
Yeah. I figured that out in the couple weeks since I started the thread. Actually have a new door and fender on order from the local wreckers as we speak, and I'm just gonna not bother with the bed and pillar besides what I've already done of sealing the bare metal and respraying them. Frame and alignment both seem fine, so I'm happy with it, and I'm probably just gonna start slowly shifting it into a "fun" project truck as opposed to a nice stock one. Mechanically, it's perfect.
