Tire Pressure Sensor with new rims.

Hello, so I recently swapped tires and rims on my 09 ranger, I did not know the TPS were in the old rims (I know its obvious, I guess I just didnt think about it.) So anyways, I'm not to concerned about it, as I just have to check my tire pressure every so often, and deal with the light on the dash. But one of my friends told me the TPS system was somehow connected to the ABS? I have never heard about anything like that before. I guess I'm just asking, is it safe to drive with no tire pressure sensors? Thanks for the help in advance!

Yes, its safe to drive

The ABS system works by detecting the RPMs of each tire, if a tire's RPM drops suddenly when brakes are being applied, locks up/skids, then ABS system reduces brake pressure to that tire

If a tires pressure was low then its RPMs would be different than the other 3 tires, and TPMS light would come on, ABS monitors that, but................every time you go around a corner the tires RPMs are different even on a highway, so won't effect operation of ABS system at all
So your friend is correct but it won't effect ABS

And I think you can use the Valve stem type TPMS sensors on a 2009, they are less expensive than the band sensors, but you do need the tires balanced again

Just FYI, the new iTPMS systems don't use sensors in the tire, they use the ABS system, lol, as described above
If one tires RPM is different that the other 3 then its pressure is low, so TPMS light comes on
