2004 Ranger needs Rear Frame Transplant
2004 Ranger needs Rear Frame Transplant
I have the 2004 Ford Ranger rear frame failing -- classic problem and the truck will soon crack in half and is parked awaiting a solution or decision on my end.
The truck is in the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts.
This job is entirely over my head and seeking some pointers to anyone who does this or welds or whatever the repair process would be -- Somewhere in the greater New England area.
Of course concerned about throwing good money after bad.
The truck is mechanically sound, functional and relatively low mileage, aside from the frame issue.
Any nudges in the right direction would be great. I have seen Youtube videos of guys doing this repair in both Maine and Rhode Island (either would be viable locations), but haven't been able to make contact.

Rangers all had a 2 piece frame, front and rear
The rear frames on regular cab or extended cab are the same
Only exception were long bed Rangers
Rear frames are usually not hard to come by, but in the North-east..............well look at yours, assuming its a rust issue
car-part.com is a good place to find used parts

I did the transplant on my 1998. Sourced a “southern frame” in great shape. The actual frame change wasn’t the hard part. There are rivets you need to grind and punch out to remove the section then I used grade 8 bolts, loctite and tightened them down to about 150 foot pounds.
Honestly, the most difficult part was taking off the “stuff” and remembering where it all went. Fuel tank, rear end, springs, all of the fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical stuff needs to be snaked out and refed through the new frame.
Take photos, label stuff, take your time.
I have a project log thread with photos if you want a reference as well.
best of luck to you
