2.3 dash, gauges, interior lighting troubleshooting
2.3 dash, gauges, interior lighting troubleshooting
My dash lights, wipers, cab light and under hood light dont work, speedometer didnt until i replaced the fuse.
could this be a bad GEM(assuming its all related)? The only lights that work on the dash are the airbag light and the battery light.
also i rewired my radio bc the fuse was bad and i didnt know, could this be causing my reverse light fuse to keep blowing?
i think the gas gauge doesnt work bc the sending unit connecter is dirty as crap? Maybe cleaning will fix? Bc for a while it would work correctly every now and then
any help/advice/criticism is appreciated

What YEAR Ranger?
If 1995-1997 OR 2001-2003, then yes, those years did use GEM for all interior electrics
Other year 2.3ls didn't have GEM
Dash info/warning lights are not controlled by GEM(except Door Ajar light), usually they don't work because bulbs are burnt out

its a 95. How do i troubleshoot the GEM
Wipers and dome light use GEM, not dash info/warning lights
GEM is behind the radio so if radio was out then GEM connections may have been unplugged
Does Reverse light fuse blow with key on?
Or does it only blow when trans is put into Reverse?
Reverse light wiring is pretty simple in 1995
(key on power)Fuse---------------------(transmission switch)-------------------------------------Reverse bulbs
If fuse blows with key on then there is a problem with wire from fuse to trans switch OR trans switch itself
If fuse only blows when in Reverse then problem is in the wire from switch to bulbs, usually drivers side rear where tail light wires come from front, people slice in trailer light wires there and can damage other wires
