One of my very first questions is about the wiring I see in both footwells. I've attached some photos. My questions regarding it all are:
1. Should that wiring be exposed like that? Is that just how all '07 Rangers are?
2. On the right side of the driver footwell (near the gas pedal), I see what looks like non-factory work. Am I right? Any possible idea what was being attempted here? Any ideas what those particular wires (marked in photo) are for?
3. On the left side of the driver footwell (near the parking brake) there are some wire connectors, with wires attached, that are not plugged into anything? Besides the small and medium ones marked in the photo, I think the large one (visible in the same area of the photo but not marked) is the same way. Plus, there is a white zip-tie holding some of it together which I don't think is stock. Or is it? What can anyone make of this? How does it compare to anyone else's '07?
In case it matters, this truck has a topper/shell, which has a working third (high center) brake light. There are also some funky things I see in the topper, and also under the truck, which I may ask about separately (loose wires to nowhere?, cig lighter dangling from the headliner, etc.). exposed wiring in driver footwell exposed wiring in passenger footwell For Question #2, unmarked for context For Question #2, marked For Question #3, unmarked for context For Question #3, marked
To put a bow on this, if anyone is interested, I started pulling the wires like the cliche of pulling on a thread. Eventually I managed to pull out a whole s-load of electronic equipment and wiring that the previous owner knew nothing about. Near as I can tell, the equipment looks like it might have been installed by a company and this was one of the company's work trucks. The equipment tracks the location and a bunch of other things, and almost all of it was hidden from view. After stripping it all out, I was able to make the footwell situation much cleaner on both sides.
