2002 Ranger Stuck in Park -- Yes, I read other posts

Brake lights work, fuses are ok -- probably the shift-lock solenoid -- here's my question: Is there a manual override for the shift-lock on this model? I've searched my user's manual and scoured the internet -- turned up nothing on this model at all.

I'd like to determine whether the solenoid is, in fact, the problem before I order the non-stocked item and tear the dash apart. All help appreciated.

No, there is no manual release

But you can try this, set Parking brake, turn key out of lock but NOT TO RUN(on), see if you can now shift to Neutral

Last ditch effort just to get you on the road, with parking brake still set, unhook battery ground terminal, see if you can now shift to Neutral, long shot

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions -- no luck.

I did drop the steering column a bit and can see that the solenoid is actually doing its thing when I've got the battery hooked up. At this point, I think it's an actual mechanical problem with the shifter.

Update

Thought I'd put my conclusion here for others. After dropping the column and determining that the shift interlock was working, I put the column back up and decided I would just try to horse the shifter over. I had the battery disconnected and the key turned just to unlock (not the first on). I just main-strengthed it over, and it finally moved. I'm not sure what was hanging it up, but it's working for the moment, and at least now, I can get it in to my guy.
