AC and heat blowing out defrost
AC and heat blowing out defrost
I have a 95 ranger xlt 4.0 4x4, and both the heat and the AC only blow out the defrost. I have already replaced both the lines going to the reservoir and cleaned the filter on the blower motor yet I still don't get air coming out my vents. If anyone has had similar problems or knows whats going on please don't hesitate to help out.

Yes, the Defrost, Panel and Floor vents are vacuum controlled in 1995 and up Rangers
Defrost is the default selection, no vacuum used/needed
So you have a no vacuum issue in the cab
With engine at idle vacuum is highest, remove the vacuum hose that's coming from the engine's intake manifold to the reservoir, put finger on it and you should have LOTS of suction, if not then the Check valve on that hose is reversed or the hose is not hooked up or is broken
If you have good vacuum then put hose back on reservoir
Remove the other hose that runs to firewall
Put finger on Reservoirs open port, should feel that same good vacuum
If no vacuum then Reservoir has a built-in check valve, some did some didn't
Reverse the hose placement on reservoir
Test if open port now has vacuum, if so hook up the hose to firewall and test Vents in cab
If still no vent control then fold down glove box door all the way, pinch in the sides
Look to the left in glove box opening and you will see the Vent Vacuum Manifold, several colored vacuum hoses
This manifold connects each vent's vacuum "motor" to the dash controller
The Black hose comes from firewall and reservoir, vacuum source

(in this picture, at the top is the Blend door actuator, white, this controls the TEMP in the cab, its electric, and did fail often, just an FYI)
The black and white hoses at bottom, are coming from the firewall connection, the white hose changes to Grey color in the engine bay, it operates the heater hose By-pass valve, just FYI
They connect to the manifold which connects to the controller
Controller pic from the back, its on the left, hoses have been cut off: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/gdIAA...kw5/s-l500.jpg
The controller routes vacuum from black hose to the other hoses to open and close vents to direct air flow
Diagram seen here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...ag-gif.331908/
So there are the colors of the different hoses that should make sense now, red, yellow, blue, white, and black, the most important one, lol
