Emptying 99 4.0 gas tank

Is there any way using the fuel pump to empty my gas tank? Several days ago I was rear ended and they are going to total the PU out and the tank is almost full. I tried disconnecting the fuel line and running the fuel pump but it only comes on for a few seconds and then shuts off. Any ideas?

You can "hot wire" the fuel pump from the engine bay fuse box

Get your 1999 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/

Go to page 139 to see the engine fuse box layout
Relay #5 is for the fuel pump power
Pull it out

Relay slots should look like this: https://www.gtsparkplugs.com/images/...lay-wiring.jpg

Slots 30 and 87 need to be connected together and fuel pump will come on full time, leave the key OFF
Use at least an 18gauge jumper wire to connect these 2 slots together

Using a siphon hose down the filler hose will be faster to drain most of the gas in the tank
Then jumper fuel pump relay for the remaining fuel

Ron, Thanks again for the expert help it worked like a charm and yet was simple to understand. The tank is drained and waiting for it's next chapter.
