Thinking of getting rid of the Ranger...<your opnion counts!>

Hey guys.

So, I've been rolling this around in my head for a bit now.

I want to getrid of the Ranger for a few reasons.

1.)I've always wanted a Suby WRX/WRX STi. (I love AutoX's and RallyX's. Can't really do that in a Ranger...)
2.) Gas. $50.00to fill up the truck yesterday.
3.) I never use it as a "truck." I rarely offroad(1.5 years ago since I last went.) And I never tow/haul anything.
4.) I can't carry anyone around.
5.) I'm moving across country soon, and don't want to get there on 16 mpg. $$$$$$$
6.) Turbo>NA.
7.) Ford is pissing me off. Dealers are *******s, Ford higher-ups aren't much better.

Among other things, I wanna get rid of it. I will have the means to do so. (I'm commissioning in the Air Force in December, I'll have a nicebigger paycheck coming in.) I also have the ability to get a $25,000 loan for 2% APR.

Also, the Ranger is all paid off.

Convince me otherwise to keep the thing, or start calling dibs on stuff to part off my truck! LOL. No, I really want your opnions guys.

all options seem very valid, i say trade it.

i dont really have any good reason for you to keep it other than you already own it?

how much better mpg will the suby get?

Depends. On an STi, i'd be looking at 21-28. Even more with a WRX.

Well it seems as though you've already made up your mind to get rid of the Ranger. As for as the suby goes I have no idea what they get for mileage but being allwheel drive I don't see it getting above 20 mpg, just guessing. If your truck is already paid off why not keep it and buy a daily driver and have the best of both worlds.

Why not keep the truck as a toy and buy a sti for your DD? I'd do that instead of getting rid of your truck since it is paid off. Last paid off vehicle I had was my 96 gt and I regret it every day getting rid of it. I HATE having a payment. Another thing to consider. Why not keep the truck and find a nice used wrx like 02ish for around 12k. You will have that and a lower monthly payment and get the best of both worlds for probably less then buying a new sti.

Overall I say keep the truck. Nothing beats a paid off vehicle. Why put yourself in more debt. I promise you that even if you paid 200 a month in gas on the truck its still cheaper then a new car.

It would be nice to keep it since it is paid off.

If it was me I would keep it. I would need the extra money for a house.

But if I did not have bills to pay i would sell it and buy the Sewby

I guess that's a good idea. I could always do a STi swap in the WRX...and my g/f really likes my Ranger...hmmm. good idea.

After test driving one (passenger) and having my head slammed into the headrest so hard it gave me a headache for the rest of the day, I'd say get the Suby. We only got to drive the WRX cause the STi was on a stand (I can't even imagine the STi), but even the WRX threw me back harder than ALL of the Mustang GT's we test drove, gotta love AWD. Just warn your passengers before you goose it. They'll thank you.

I say keep and get the suby as a dd. My 96 cav was paid off then I got rid of it for the Ranger, but that thing was way better on gas.

I too love RallyX and always wanted an Evo or an Sti... I think I might get me an EvoX when they come out soon. My ranger will be paid off by then as well but I'll be back in school working less so I dont know.

The only reason I am worried to get it though would be I already get speeding tickets because I drive the truck like it was AWD... what's going to happen if I get a rally car?

I say keep it. Yeah, $50 is a lot of money for gas, but to be honest I'm excited to see $50 rather than $100 to fill my Bronco up. Keep it. You never know when you'll need it.

honestly.. i got rid of my truck for a lot of the same reasons.. and my truck was paid off as well- but I do find it worth it everyday to have a $275 car payment when I drive my car, yeah it's only 180hp and an automatic but it's fun, peppy, gets good mileage, looks good, yada yada and can HAUL PEOPLE which I love now. So yah.. it's all about what you can afford though, if you can swing it i'd go for it since it sounds like you'd be happier in a car. Good luck with your choice though. BTW I was lookin at some subies the other day, the STI's get like 19city and 25hwy, not too bad for 292hp AWD lol.. and the WRX's get better

It's as bad an idea to race your daily driver car as it is to offroad your daily driver truck. Just a thought. Best of luck to ya man! If I could afford something with some more juice and more people-carrying capacity, I'd probably go for it too. But I'm still in love with my Ranger and will probably be so for quite some time!

^^^^ Same here, I love my ranger, and if I ever got a second vehicle as a DD for gas, i would be driving one of these the rest of the time.... (doesn't matter if it 4x2 or 4x4 I love em)
