Just took my bed of...Now What?

I have a 98 Ranger 4WD Auto Ext Cab. I took the bed off to rust proof and fix anything else??

First, the bolts were a B*!@# !! Broke 2 the rest were rusted and stripped!

1. need (6) new bolts and clips (nuts)
2. Brake line on driver side is rusted and i want to replace now
3. Tailgate rusted thru on bottom and the hinge was rusted together
need new hinge assmy and tailgate also tailgate straps

Where can I find the small stuff 9bolts, hinge etc)??

Anything else I should do before I put it back on??

Thanks for all the info

Randy

Check you leaf spring hangers and shackles, they are a common problem on rangers and you can change them all for about 120.00. Lube your spare tire hoist. If needed the rear shocks are easy to get to. Paint the filler tube for the gas tank.

I would price them at a dealer and maybe a junkyard. If you can even find good ones in a junkyard. Maybe LMC truck

Get some cheap black paint and paint the entire frame while its easily accessible. If you have that much rust on the body I would hate to see the frame.

As for the parts I would be searching for a junkyard.

use a wire wheel on the frame first. Prep here is important,. try to get as much rust off as possible, then prime and then paint.

I'd replace the fuel pump and sender assembly.

Before you shrug off THAT idea, price out those new bedbolts and clips (I'll save you the time >$100 for all 6).
Then price out the fuel pump/sender assembly.

Then tell me whether you want to pull the bed off again (when the fuel pump fails or the gauge reads empty when full).

I'd use POR-15 to paint the frame.

Thanks for the info guys, I wire whee;led the whole frame and anything else I could and have it coated with rust converter. Iplanned on spraying it with "spray on bedliner" any thoughts??

$100 for bolts!!! How about stainless steel form the hardware store??

This is what I am replacing so far...
1. (6) new bolts and clips (nuts)
2. Brake line on driver side is rusted and i want to replace now
3. Tailgate rusted thru on bottom and the hinge was rusted together
need new hinge assmy and tailgate also tailgate straps
4. fuel pump and sender

Anything else??

Thanks again

Randy

I personally wouldn't bother with the 100 for 6 bolts. I just got new ones from the hardware store, the only bad part is havin to have two people to unbolt the bed, but how often do you take the bed off?

I'm with My91Ranger... I just bought nuts and bolts from the hardware store.... maybe keep one with the clip on the one by the gas tank cuz that one can be a pita... oh and most likely you need at least 2 ppl to take the bed off the frame anyway...
