fuel pressure doesnt hold when key is off

this truck takes a long time to start.. it cranks for a long time then sputters some and then finally starts and runs fine. after checking the fuel pressure i found that it drops to 0 almost as soon as the key is turned off. i know there is a check valve somewhere in the fuel system to keep this from happening. does anyone know if i can get it sperate from the fuel pump or does it come with it?? i asked the ford dealer around here and they couldnt figure it out. maybe i should just call back and talk to another parts guy

You have to buy a new fuel pump. The check valve does not come separately.

Get some seafoam, and put it in the gas tank and change the fuel filter. Also, you might have a wiring problem, check the voltage at the pump when cranking and priming/starting.

Have you tried cycling the key on waiting say 15 seconds then cranking?

Are you past your warranty?

A leaking fuel filter will make it do that too.

I agree it's probably the check valve (part of the fuel pump), but look for seepage around the fuel filter lines. Driver side inner frame rail.

i replaced the fuel filter first thinking that the check valve was in it due to the 2 in 1 out arrangement of the filter so i checked for leaks at that time and it was ok

Well trucks got a 100k on it i say a fuel pump can fall into a needed part for maintenance reasons.

However im not 100 % sure the pump has the check valve. It maybe in the regulator.

Does the truck have a CEL or any stored codes?

When I got a new assembly (pump reg and fuel sender) it did not come with the strainer. Granted this was from Advanced. YMMV

Check the parts before you leave to make sure you have one.
