A buddy and I took the rangers out Saterday night. Had a awesome time but I did do some carnage. Smashed fog light, Cracked valence, gashed the gas tank skid plate, Quarter sized gash in the passenger door. Put a dent in the left control arm.

I hate using chains, That yellow box is full of staps, not chains, But for a small just pulling about 2 feet to get his ttb off a rock its works ok.

 

Until it snaps! Chains are not safe as recovery gear, which can be had cheaper than a new tailgate or rear window.

as long as they weren't yanking.. and it was just a little tug there's no issue.

The fronts are slicks...I actually just ordered new tires from work yesterday.
Just air them down to 10 psi and they pull through the mud like no other.

As to the chains, I work as a mechanic and also do most of the towing/offroad recoverys, so I know how to use a chain safely. BUT I dont disagree Chains are bad news, I would much rather use a Procomp 30x4 with a 40k rating. A chain is designed for static tension not Yanks.
