what kind of HU do you have? i have a sony xplod too, and i didnt knoe that they had a ipod direct connect.

 

im pissed that my ipod cable on my headunit which charged my classic does not charge my Touch. i had to get an auxilary and run it from the rear of the deck under the cupholders and such

 

Its the CDX-GT710, just go to ebay and search sony ipod connection and it should come up.

Yeah mine won't charge either. Theres this thing called the Sosche Passport that will allow it to charge though, its only 25 dollars. Its like an adapter for the ipod cable

 

hold up wait. it wont work for the touch? thats what i have. will it play play the music with the touch? and will any ipod direct connect work with the sony? i mean will a sony Ipod Direct connect work with any sony HU?

 

Do you have the first or second gen touch? If it has the volume controls on the side its its the 2nd gen and will only play music, not charge. The sony ipod connect will work with any 05 up headunit.

 

well i don't even have a sony. i have a Panasonic head unit that i paid a bit over 400 for when it was brand new...and back then the ipod cable was 100 bucks. Trent, where can i get this Passport thing and do you have any idea if it will work on brands other than sony?
and yes i have a gen2

 

You can get the passport on ebay, amazon any of those sites. It works on the end of any ipod cable, its not a brand specific thing.

 

gotcha. i may order it. i just want it to charge when my battery gets low because i don't really like controlling the ipod through the head unit. It takes to long to get between artists and such but if its on shuffle its good.

 

Yeah the way the Sony units control it is a bad design, its slow to search through and stuff. The Alpine is so much better IMO, I just set it shuffle and go though so its not big deal.

 

Trent where did you get your 06 tails from? I was thinking I might be able to get them cheaper at a junkyard rather than ebay?

 

yeah thats what i did with my classic put it on shuffle. panasonic is also slow. no big deal though.

I got that one from FX2.3, I'm going to get the other one from Certifit. Its only like 35 a tail from them brand new.
