Installed 94-04 Mustang GT rear brakes .... pics
#26
I recently found out with my rear disks, that a siezed caliper sucks more then drum brakes. I wouldnt really call them an upgrade, they work about the same. The only difference between the Base mustang brakes and the Cobra brakes is the caliper bracket and the rotors. They both use the same caliper.
Retarded move on your part to not replace the axle seals while you had everything apart, you can get them at any parts store for less then $5 a side.
What did you use to hold your new brake lines to the axle? I am currently using zip ties, I havnt thought too much about it, but im thinking of just getting some big hose clamps.

Majority rust the cylinder bore gets rusty and doesn't allow the piston to move. Only ever had one blow so it was leaking fluid out the bore but I think that was a bad part. It's common around here usually after winter one of the 2 usually is so rusted it stops working.
Caravan - 2000 - just replaced one of the wheel cyliders a month ago, other is original
Buick - 1985 - replaced once
Saturn - 1997 - originals.
Ranger - 2004 - worked great until the swap.
I think your doing something wrong if you have to replace them every 2 years.

Yeah the how to is a bit shaddy on the e-brake. Its a bit of a pain in the *** to get it hooked up, but its pretty straight forward. Pro tip: lay under the drivers floor board, grab the parking brake cable and pull it as far towards the back of the truck as possible, then put a vice grips on the cable to prevent it from going back. This will give you a bunch of slack and make it easier.

LOL WUT?
Sorry, i thought the how-to is pretty clear on installing v6/gt brakes and cobra brakes, although only cobras are shown.
Didn't realize you people needed pictures of gt brakes to get the idea....
And Stone, what the hell is that brake line adapter? You should have been able to bolt on stock mustang lines. People need to read the disccusion thread to get more detail.
I should rewrite it, but i'm too lazy to...not enough people actually do this mod for me to care.

The GT and the cobra brakes are the same, except the caliper bracket and the size of the rotor, they use the same caliper, and backing plate and hardware.....
Now that I look at it again the how-to is pretty good with the parking brake cable. I just remember when I did it, I was sitting in the garage thinking WTF? One thing that could have used more detail is how long the tube should be. Mines about 2.5 inches. Oh and a cut up golf club also works for when run out of pipe. haha
As for the lines. On mine the distribution block was a M10x1.00 and the mustang soft lines are either a M10x1.25 or a M10x1.5, I cant remember. Also on the dist block, I had to get a brake nut that didnt have the shoulder on it, I needed one that the threads went all the way to the bottom of the nut. The distro black is very shallow and I couldnt get the threads to grab with the shoulder.

Like malydeen said it isnt the same thread on the soft line as a normal ranger hard line. not everyone has an easy way of getting SS brake lines so i wanted to show another cheaper way of doing it. also i saw washers on your brackets and figured it needed to be spaced but it wasnt clear on explaining. so i just wanted to point some things out for people. dont take it personally lol...

I am not bashing your how to LOL.. I just wanted to show people some things i feel the how to missed or wasnt completely shown. thats all not everyone knows the full steps like some of us.

That is weird the mustang soft line didn't bolt in. The gt/vg stangs i've pulled parts off of have all been the 3/16 inverted flare tube fittings just like the ranger. I konw of guys who have installed cobra lines, so at least i know those fit. So that little adapter goes from the ragner inverted flare to whatever mustang thread is, huh?
