yeah cam said the cop was distracted by his laptop in the car and blew a stop sign.....and there wont be any additional funds...lol they will replace with what truck is valued at minus add ons, unless his insurance covers the add-ons....it wont come out of his insurance's pocket but IF he has that coverage their insurance has to honor that.....i know because i've been in a similar situation, and most southern states are pretty close when it somes to that type of situation...lol

What's with all the police bashing? So the guy made a mistake, cops are human. Some of you guys need to grow up.

I'm sure they'll take care of you and reimburse you accordingly. I'm also sure there is no need to get a lawyer involved.

Im not an expert in metalurgy or frame construction, but as long as I know the steel used on the frames has a heat treatment that make it very resistant and kind of "elastic" to take the big loads in the bed, since the rear axle was disaligned by the hit, and considering is one of the strongest parts in the vehicle, I will say that there is a high probability that the frame could had some serious damage, Usually if this kind of damage gets repaired is by applying forces to the frame to "bend-it" back to the original shape.

After this process the strenght of the frame and the ability to manage big loads will be compromised for life. I really hope your leaf springs and hangers had absorbed this misalignment instead of the frame mounting.

And just as others had said: It was a really nice truck !

wow dude that sucks.. glad you went to the doctor and they gave you some pain reliever ****. hell my lungs still hurt from when i hit a power pole in the ranger on december 17th, and the doctor just told me it was bruising and to take advil when needed...
ICBC couldnt help me and they didnt total my truck so i got the choice of either throwing it on the scrap pile or dragging it home, that was a no-brainer to me i got it dragged home.

do you have any more pictures of your truck??? like a 3/4 view showing the fenders and stuff??? i'd go into the tow yard and tell them you want to get everything out of your truck. personal things like cd player, subs etc stuff like that, because even if they dont total it and you drag it home it wont matter.

good luck, hope you get out on the better side!! dont let the piggies g get away with this ****. the cop would get some kind of "punishment" because HE was the one that hit you, it wasnt your fault.

Did the hypocrite write himself a ticket for running the stop sign, no seat belt, and whatever else they get you with for causing an accident?

He should be fired!!! You wreck a company truck with fault where I work and you're gone!!

Hopefully they do you right and get you fixed up.

I agree with that completely. He should be issued tickets for not wearing a safety belt and disobeying a traffic control device.

Depending on the situation, cops aren't always required to wear a seat belt. Of course this also depends on departmental and city policy. He just flat made a mistake when he ran the stop sign. I'm willing to bet that is the last thing he wanted to happen.

People are f'cking stupid. They hate the police, until they are in trouble and need them. But all the other times they are just a "nuisance". Typically if you are being a civilized human being, and not breaking the law, they won't bother you.

I also hate people that mooch and try to milk the system. People think they are entitled. Wrong...

I'd say that truck is totaled. I had a very minor accident a few months back that cost the insurance company 4k in bills. You'd be surprised how fast everything adds up...

They're trying not to total it, which is pissing me off. They said there's $6100 damage so far and they haven't checked the transmission or anything like that. I'm just going to hate getting back a bandaided truck that I'll never be able to sell.

As I said, I'd lawyer up. Tell them you either get a replacement truck or you file suit against the city for the truck, legal fees, injuries, amongst other things.

As much as this sucks to say and id hate teh same situation, id let them total it. I would CONSTANTLY worry about if its back to normal or it never being the same again if that happened and they ended up being able to save it and fix it. It get as much as you could off the truck, let them total it out and either get another ranger, or a F150 or F250 but thats just me.

Like I said I know its going to suck so bad but it would just bug me to death and would be better to cut my losses with it.

There is no reason why the tranny or motor should be an issue. The pics dont show damage that would be consistant with those damages.

Its mostly body panels and labor... imo.

Have you been arrested a lot that you have problems with the police? Why would he try and sue for $6100 bucks. The truck is not totaled then its not totaled there is nothing suing can do! There not going to give him a $20,000 truck for $6100 in damage.

Agreed.

I dont think you can sue for damages to the truck. Thats what insurance is for. You might be able to civil suit but that would be for neglagence.

One thing we need to think about is, why does this situation differ just because he is a Cop? If a normal citizen would have done this would the outcome be any different? My answer is NO. The officer is not subject to different rules. He will get treated just like anyone else would.

There is more that needs to be replaced other then just body panels. His description states other problems, such as the axle, wheel, driveshaft, brakelines, exc. You never know what else could be damaged in a collision like that.

I'd probably want them to total it out too. Re-sale value is fvcked after a collision like that...it will be on Carfax.

I do agree though, that the cop shouldn't be treated any differently then any other individual. Accidents happen. No one is perfect.

Please remember, (most people dont even know this) by Law your truck will have a damage discloser. In SD, thats a 2500 dollar hit to the value of the truck. If its not your fault you can ask for that value to be paid to you, from the Ins company. I found out the hard way. You should not have to have a lower valued truck because of someone else made a mistake.

Doesnt feel good does it. No one needs to do this including me.

It pisses me off when people make generalizations about our armed forces and law enforcement.

I have SERIOUS respect for our armed forces. I shake a service mans hand and thank them any chance I get. I've bought several beers for military guys that I didn't even know, in local taverns. I look up to these guys. Our military is an amazing force to be reckoned with.

You just don't have any idea how corrupt the police department here really is. They always have been. Half of them here don't deserve to wear their badge. Come here and ask around. You'd see. Although, you'd barely make it over the county line until you got pulled over for some bunk reason. "Swerving" or "I swear that light was out when I stopped you"
