2.3 turbo head on N/A block?
2.3 turbo head on N/A block?
i am in the process of turboing my 1987 2.3 liter 5 speed LTX ranger and i almost know that the head isnt going to hold. Will the turbo head from an SVO model or the head from the early 90's lima motors match up and fit on my block? Thank you in advance.
Yes, any Lima Turbo head will fit your block.
Look around the exhaust valve seats closely, they had a tendency to crack there.
'87 block should have the oil drain hole for the turbo.
Only other difference was the stock 2.3l turbos had forged pistons, everything else was the same, connecting rods, and crank as well

Hey thank you so much this is exactly the info I have been searching for. And thank you for the exhaust valve tip! What years exactly were the Lima motors and did the heads off them have a special casting number? Sorry for all the questions this is my first ranger build
Not sure about casting numbers.
If you look here and scroll down to the Lima Engines:
Ford Pinto engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You will see the history of the 4 cylinder engines used in Rangers and other Ford models.
The Ranger 2.0l, 2.3l, and 2.5l SOHC are basically the same engines
2.3l is a bored out 2.0l
2.5l is a stroked 2.3l
The 2.3l DOHC Duratec replaced the Lima engines in mid-2001
