2.3L Timing Belt TDC
2.3L Timing Belt TDC
Timing belt went out on my 94 2.3L. I have been researching how hard the job will be to replace the belt. While reading some people are saying the first step is to set it to TDC then remove everything. Do I need to do set TDC even if the belt is already broken? I was thinking if it's broken, the timing is already off and TDC won't matter. So I just need to get to the belt, replace it and align the 3 gears with their marking and I should be good. Am I correct in thinking this?
If I do need to set TDC how do I do that?
Thanks!

No, you don't need to set it to TDC first, just when installing new belt
Remove at least 1 spark plug from each cylinder, it will make turning the crank much easier
You have the last year of the old style crank sensor, so make sure you replace that and align it, it comes with a tool to do that

Thank you for responding. Finally got the belt out and the new one in. Does the crank sensor normally go out on these? Could I just reuse my old one and just adjust the sensor so that the crankshaft pulley has room to rotate? Or is the tool important?
You can reuse it, but will kick yourself if it goes out , its not an expensive part and hard to get at if it fails
There should be a few How-tos on the spacing for the crank sensor, it is an IMPORTANT alignment
