2001 2.3 2wd 5spd swap compatibility
I have a 2001 2wd manual with the 2.3L(vin code D)single plug and standard m50d-r1 trans and its knocking. What motors can i swap in thats the easiest to install and requires the least amount of converting. Id like an exact match to be sure but i can't find one.

You have a 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine, Mazda L engine
First used in Rangers in mid year 2001, earlier 2001 used the 2.5l SOHC Lima engine, different engine
2.3l Duratec was used in 2001-2011 Rangers and Mazda B2300s
Best match would be 2001-2003 2.3l Duratec, as it has the IMRC intake manifold, and heated thermostat, but these are just bolt on parts
You can used 2004-2011 2.3l Duratec as well, just swap your 2001 intake over and heated thermostat to the later model engine

It may only show local 2001-2003 2.3l models because those are exact matches
So also try search using 2004 model year, these will also tend to be lower miles engines the later the years, and swapping intakes is not that hard
As said the Mazda B2300 2001-2010 used the same 2.3l Duratec engines, they should come up in the searches, if not try separate search
