4 banger top speed
Ok, with my 2.5 with 3.73 gears and running 31s has like a top speed of maybe 70 mph. Is that right? I was going down the interstate this evening on my way home from college and had the thing floor boarded at 70ish. It is pathetic. It never used to be like that and I would not have thought the 31s would have been that bad. It just seemed slower than normal tonight and there was not much of a wind. Is there anything I can do? Will my hopefully future 4.10 gears fix this or make it worse?
My old 93 with the 2.3 would go like 95ish, down a bridge tailing a semi with a tailwind... Never sure how fast it actually went because the speedo stopped at 85
No. LOL I cruise at like 85 down the highway going home from school. I have a 4 banger, 33's and 4.10's when I had 3.73's it would still do that same cruise just a little more work.
as fast as you can pedal
i did 101.
4.88s 35s no doors.. big hill |
Ok well hopefully when I get a 4.10 to put in it will be a little better. How about plugs? What if the plugs in the truck are original with 130,000 on them? Think it might do better when I replace them this winter break?
if you regear with the 31s, go with 4.56s, you will be much better off and get better mileage. Also remember that swapping to the 31s has made your speedo read differently also.
plugs, wires, fuel filter, TPS mod (it made a big difference on my truck). throttle cable mod... start there
TPS? I do not think I have heard that one.
throttle postion sensor...as for the mod, I have no clue. Never heard of it. My truck has seen 95mph with 31s. Only seen it once and all it will ever see it. 70 is fast enough.
the throttle position sensor runs off of v-ref which is 5volts. the throttle position sensor, at idle should be as close to .96 volts as possible. you hook a voltmeter up to the gd wire and the v-ref out wire and elongate the tps sensor holes and turn it until it reads .96 volts. disconnect the battery afterward, it made a big difference on my truck. mine was at .78 when i started

ive hit 93mph(where the BS governor is set at) at only like 3300rpms and thats with 33's and 4.10s
ive heard our **** is governed but i hit almost 100 downhill and didnt feel it kick in ... and i know what it feels like cause one of my friends has an 01 zq8 4.3l sonoma and that **** kicks in hard downhill
I dont think your that far off... just remember your speedo is also wrong with those 31's... your probably going 75-80mph.
My old 94 2.3L Lima, with a 5 speed, and 3.45 gears topped out at 77-79mph.. then again i didnt expect much more from a pickup with 98hp |
at least the damn lima gets better than the 24 tops i been gettin highway .... im seriously looking for a 93 older b2200 right now
wanna race? lol
I had 4.10 & 31"s.. no problems getting to 95.. but felt like it was going to take off.. now 4.10s and 27"s is fun! |
whats your gas miles like ... if its close to 30s and you drive 70 - 80 hwy im puttin 4.10s in
I had 4.10s and 26.7 inch tall tires. It was fun. I out ran 2 3.0 rangers at our strip. It pulled very hard for a 4 banger, but sucked gas. I was running 3000+rpm at 60mph. With the 31s i turn 2400 at 60 and get better gas mileage, and yes my speedo has been calibrated. 5th gear is a dog though.
96 mph level interstate, sittn on stocks at the time :shhh: (i dont know how fast I go now since the tire change to 31's)
Also I didn't know if I was red lining it cause I dont have a tach. but the engine was whining pretty good when I let off. |
my 94 got up to 93 mph
I mean, I have had the truck to 96 it just seems like in the past couple months that it has been a dog.

I'm gonna go with a YES. |
with 14 inch rims a 225 tires my 4 banger does 102 top end...

Ok, the guy that originally had the truck almost exactly followed the book that came with the truck on when to change stuff. They filled the book out perfectly but I never saw in there when or if they ever put new plugs in. The second owner never said anything about it. So now me being the 3rd owner, I am going to change them. I'll look at them and see what shape they are in. This will probably happen in about 3-4 weeks.
Also, I went yesterday and made sure they had exactly everything everything I need at the autoparts store. They had everything except for the intake gasket which there is one at the next store over. |
