Hey guys, I have a 1991 2.3l 2WD that is having some issues. While I was driving to work the other day, the engine suddenly died (it didn't give any warning and made no strange noises, it just shut off) and now I can't get it running again. It turns over, but it won't start. My spark plugs and wires are good (just replaced them a couple of weeks ago) so I checked to see if they were firing. They aren't. So I have come to the conclusion that some sensor somewhere must have gone bad. The problem is that I have limited knowledge of these engines (I work mostly on Subarus) and I don't know what to look for. It has 136k miles by the way.

In short, what would cause the plugs to not spark? Or rather, the coils?

 

I hooked it up to a OBD I code reader and it told me nothing that I already didn't know. I'm mildly positive that the problem is my crankshaft position sensor.
