Can I put a 05 4.0v6 from an automatic into my 95 2.3l manual
Is it possible to put a 4.0 v6 from a 2005 automotive ranger into my 1995 2.3l manual ranger..?
So I was doing a moving gig for a lady and afterwards her brother said he had a ranger but it has a cracked frame and someone tried to steal it so the ignition has been drilled out. Hr said he didn't know how to start it and the frame was not road worthy in his eyes he saw mine and asked if I wanted to take it off his hands... Of course I agreed right away...",cracked frame how bad can that really be" I told myself. After showing me the truck it was beautiful and I was excited to upgrade. Not only by 10 years but to a 4.0 with AC!
After looking over the truck I was able to get it started without the key because I had to drill my ignition due to breaking the key in the door so I knew where to start... The frame though is completely broken on both ends right before the rear axle... I assume the cost are very steep to fix that so I wondered if I was able to swap motors with minimal modifications.

No, not and easy swap or cheap, but doable
2005 Rangers don't have PATS, only year after 2001 that didn't, which is why you could start it
2005 has 4.0l SOHC engine, 2.3l manual trans won't bolt up to it and there are no adapters, you would need a 2001-2011 4.0l SOHC manual trans, an M5OD-R1HD 2WD complete with shifter
You will also need 2001-2003 4.0l SOHC manual trans engine computer(with PATS keys), should be able to use 2005 engine wiring harness.............maybe
2005 computer will only work with its 2005 digital instrument cluster, they are a matched pair(set) neither will work without the other, Ford Dealer can replace either but you can't
Digital dash won't work in the 1995 without changing cab wiring harness, AND all the modules, not even worth looking at doing that
2001 was first year Rangers got the 4.0l SOHC engines, 2000 and earlier used 4.0l OHV so different engine and those computers won't work
2001-2003 still used analog cluster, same as your 1995 with some repining on the cluster
You can replace just the rear frame on the 2005, it is a separate part, same rear frame on regular cab or extended cab
Rear Frame is riveted to front frame just behind cab, 1998 and up I am told
Read this thread about replacing rear frame: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...cement-141907/
If the 2005 is a nice truck I would do this vs swapping engine
Way cheaper and you end up with a 2005 Ranger
