Different motor in put in 94?
Different motor in put in 94?
I've got a 94 2.3 5SPD 2wd I bought recently. It has a little trouble when cold. I notice when looking at the motor the ect sensor has no plug in it. I've looked all around it thinking it just got unplugged but there's not a connector on the harness near it to plug into it. I also noticed while changing my ps hp line that there's a spline coming out of the motor that spins when it's started. I assume this is where the distributor went. Also someone has changed the cluster to a lower mileage cluster and the oil gauge goes backwards. There's other little clues such as the eva? with vacuum coming into and out of it has no where to bolt to, it just hangs there.
Any ideas what year this motor is and what I can do to correct the cold start not being hooked up?
Edit: Other missing: sensor under the intake directly between the split of the dams with no connector.

Only compatible engines are 1989 to 1994 2.3l Lima
Spinning shaft is most likely for a cam sensor, yes 1988 and older distributor drive, 1995 and up castings don't have that hole
ECT sensor is 2 wire, a grey/red wire and a light green/red stripe wire, if not hooked up then yes it would run poorly when cold, you should also get a CEL(check engine light)
Oil pressure sender is probably the wrong one, or maybe the cluster is, lol
Does the CEL come on with key on?
If not the bulbs burned out or removed
You need to pull the cluster and find out

Ok. I replaced the oil sensor and it fixed the gauge. It had a good leak so two birds one stone. I pulled codes yesterday but I've done a little work to it since then and I'll have to pull them again as cel still comes on after a bit of driving since replacing a few cracked vacuum hoses.
I misstated about the ect. It's got to be these are air temperature sensors as they are in the intake and not in the water jackets. I'll post codes in a few minutes.

3 digit Ford definitions here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...gitcodes.shtml
111 System checks OK
172 (R,M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean
332 (R,M) EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code
Do you have an EGR Valve?
And is it hooked up?

Follow the vacuum line from the EGR Valve to the EGR solenoid, make sure its plugged in, 2 wires, then follow its vacuum line to the intake manifold, making sure all vacuum hose are in good condition
This code doesn't change engine operation
The Lean code may be a vacuum leak, if a hose above is leaking
So check EGR system first then clear codes
