Engine swap compatability 95' auto into 95' manual
Hey yall, im brand new to this all. First forum, thread, vehical to work on etc. So be gental plz.
anyways as the title says i was wondering the compatability between the 2.3L sohc from a 95 automatic into a 95 manual tranamission. As the motor in my truck has siezed to no repair i am shopping for a replacement and i tend to see so many of the 95s but only out of an auto 4x2...and my truck is a manual as well as 4x4 if it matters. I understand there are major differences in the transmission but is there any in the actual motor themselves? Wiring harneses? Sensors? Bolt patterns? Im just trying to have a direct replacement. Im hoping the motors are the same and the difference is only in the transmissions because i dont want to wait forever to find a direct replacement truck of same year, trans, body style etc.

Welcome to the forum
The engines are the same for manual or automatic
For a 1995 Ranger 2.3l SOHC Lima engine, you need to use a 1995 to 1997 2.3l Lima, can't use 1994 or earlier
You could also use a 1998-2001 2.5l SOHC Lima, it just has a longer stroke, you would need to use your 1995 intake manifold on the 2.5l, to match wiring and fuel system
When an engine is out always replace rear main seal, its cheap
And with any Lima engine, you may want to replace timing belt as well, while its out

If its a 2.3l auto it will bolt to the 2.3l engine, problem will be computer in the manual trans vehicle won't have the software to shift the A4LD trans into OD, you could add a switch on the dash to turn OD on and off, but this is NOT the same as the OD on/off on later models, which prevented automatic shift to OD, you would have to turn OD on when at highway speeds and the off when you were slowing down
