oil pressure

oil pressure

i have a quick question and hopefully it bring me a simple quick answer. lol two days ago my oil pressure gauge started showing way above normal its almost past the oil icon. i have a 95 xlt with a 2.3 liter 5 speed anyone know why this is happening and what to do about it? thanks for your time

These gauges are what is known as a "dummy" gauge. The sending unit is a pressure activated switch which comes on at around 7 psi.
The gauge is preset to read in the middle of the scale when the sender actuates no matter what pressure over 7 psi.
Your problem is in the gauge itself.
