Ticking Noise??

Ticking Noise??
i have a 94 Ranger splash 2.3...
.....Ive noticed the TICKING getting a little louder so yesterday i changer to thicker oil(20-50) and added stp oil treatment. BUT i found the previous oil filter gasket was stuck to the block!!! ( 2 gaskets total) witch was causing my oil pressure to idle at 40 pounds instead of the normal 60 pounds>.(i have mechanical guages) And a pretty bad oil leak.. Now after the oil and filter change no more leaks, and my oil pressures is to normal 60 pounds at idle..I STILL hear a ticking noise at idle only and goes away at 2k rpm... i think a lifter is stuck or worn.. someone please help ??? im lucky i didnt blow it up with the filter gaskets stuck...

Ok I will as soon as they open 2 marrow.. But could that be true even though I have great oil pressure and great response... It sounds like it's getting louder and more frequent .. Only goes away when I give it gas...? Man I hope it's not a busted piston ring...??? Thanks so much guys!!

Well I just cranked it up this morning and it was smoking BAD thick blue smoke and didn't quit until it warmed up... That's not good

I have found if you do not run 5-20W oil the lifters will tick.
This has happened to me in both my 88Ranger/5.0L and my 95 Ranger 2.3L.
I am now running a 3.0L and run Synthetic Oil, 5-20W, all is good.
Now to replace the noisy idler.
Oh ya, double gaskets, I do not think they cause the oil pressure to drop… AND I do not believe that your engine would blow up is you had ⅛” more oil in the filter area.

Oil pressure is fine now though but it's either ticking or a slight knock and smokes ALOT when first cold crank up..the noise only stops when I give it gas.. I think it's a broken piston ring but I hope not!! It just started the smoking thing this morning..
