gas mileage on 2.3L 1996 Ranger

what is the average gas mileage everyone is getting on their 2.3L Rangers? I have a 1996 Ranger with a 2.3L automatic tranny and my gas mileage sucks big time....i have 14" wheels on it...brand new K&N air filter..bought the k&N last week hoping to improve it..but doesnt seem to change any. I use to have a 94 Ranger powered with 4.0L V6 with auto tranny and got more out of it than the 2.3L...let me know of some new stuff to put on my truck to help the gas mileage. thanks

I've got a '00 2.5l but im getting about 22mpg with a lead foot. The 2.3 should get just as good if not better.......probably 25mpg, maybe even closer to 30 on a trip. I'd check things like spark plugs, spark plug wires, stuff like that......make sure the brakes aren't draging. How many miles is on the engine, and how does it run?

I have a 97 2.3 L manual and I seem to get from 18-23 with most city driving. For me it seems that the more you baby-it the mpg drops. I shift at about 3k and am seeing great results.

94 ranger 2.3 manual with KN cone filter, no cat, flowmaster exhaust, and lowered 2/4 got around 30 mpg average. On long trips on the freeway, I could get in the mid 30's

city or highway?

I've seen some ford f150's get 19mpg, all highway, 5.4, 2wd, auto, but it doesn't make it a gas efficient machine.
