Timing adjustment????
Timing adjustment????
I recently installed new timing belt but I think i may have missed the timing Mark on either the cam or crank. The truck has much less power and uses a lot more fuel. Is there any way to adjust the timing on a 94 Mazda without a distributor
No, if you mean spark timing
Cam/crank timing can be tested with vacuum gauge or compression test
Either will be low if cam and crank are not timed correctly
Vacuum should be 18"-22"
1994 2.3l compression should be 160+ PSI, 9.4:1 ratio
With lower compression you lose power and when you lose power you use more gasoline to move the 3,000lbs vehicle down the road
1994 can have two different marks on the cam gear, diamond and a triangle, if worn down the diamond can look like a triagle
The AUX gear(oil pump) is the same size as the Cam gear and they are interchangeable so they both have the diamond and triangle marks
Cam Gear uses triangle, at approx. 4:00
AUX gear uses diamond at 12:00
If you have a Cam sensor then AUX gear also needs to be timed, cam sensor would be on back side of AUX gear on the back cover

The 12:00 orientation is IF ENGINE is straight up and down, which it isn't when in a vehicle, its at an angle
So crank gear keyway should be at 90deg angle from oil pans straight line, which is about 11:30
