timing questions
i got a 88 ranger 2.3L and trying to get the timing right. i need to know if on the bottom gear going to the distrubtor has any markings on it to get it correct. also on the top cam gear does the notch go straight up and down or to the bottom? all help is appreciated. thanks

well, the crankshaft keyway should be straight up for TDC, the camshaft should have the mark on it (triangle i believe) lined up with the same mark on the backing plate. and the distributor just turn the 3rd sprocket until the rotor is pointing to the number one tower on the dist cap or as close as possible, the distributor can be losened and adjusted to get the ignition timed correctly using a timing light after it is all back together, the important thing is just be sure the crankshaft and camshaft are set properly.
