Icon5 transfer case question

so as of right now i think i found a 1989 waggy d44 with 4:10 gears and leaf springs... i am going to try and pick this up. i have been doing a lot of research on other peoples builds and from what i have seen everyone is swapping to a manual transfer case when they go solid axle. is this a necessity or can i make due with the electronic case for a while? i would like to keep the electronic case (for a while anyways) if i can just for financial reasons...

Yup, i only went to a manual case for the reliablity, but it is not needed at all.
