bilstein rear shocks too long?
today i replaced the rear shocks with some bilstein b6 4600's (24-188258's)
rockauto cited these as the match for my 09 4wd but when i first got the order i guess fedex misdelivered cause a neighbour from a street over ended up dropping the parts off and everything was opened.
i suspect he was the next door neighbour of a guy that is a waste of skin actually and i just moved here so suffice to say i returned the part and the replacements came with no hardware (i replaced the hardware in the original order)
maybe because there wasent a rockauto tab for returning merchandise that was misdelivered and handed over by a friend of a dude i had to choke out when he was wandering the streets causing **** and my merch was all opened.. they swapped the part on me?
the real issue here, minus the backstory, is that the replacement shocks seem way longer than original.
they were a bear to get in to their spots and the rubber accordian dust cover is always pretty compressed but i guess since i installed with the diff jacked up then thats maximum compression and there should not be any major issue with drivability?
did your bilstien rears come with hardware? were they pretty much max compression fitting them into their perches with the diff jacked?
they came with the strap already compressing them but man i had to work getting at least another foot of compression getting them up and in.
i can up a pic tomorrow if this seems uncommon.
test drive seemed okay.

Well you can measure the distance between bump stop(rubber bumper) and plate to see if shock has that much upward travel left
Then jack up the frame on one side until tire is off the ground, to make sure it has enough extended travel
Shocks, of course, are not part of the suspension, i.e. they don't/shouldn't support any weight or prevent full travel of the suspension in any way
Shocks are there to prevent springs from too much rebound when the weight of the truck pushes down more on the springs like when you hit a bump,, so they damper bouncing
Having the correct shocks can matter to ride, because shocks are built to have low resistance to changing position in the center of travel, and then higher resistance as they get closer to end of travel at either end
So they allow the springs to do what they are suppose to do, absorb regular bumps, but kind of help the springs on a really big bump or drop
I can't tell you specifically about your model

thanks for the reply if nobody chimes in that has ever installed bilsteins i'll measure the travel between bumpstop/chassis and compare it to how much of the rod is still extended in the shock but thats no gaurantee the travel is available.
was hoping it was a common mod and others have or have not noticed such anomoly.
