I'm doing a lot of front end work on my ranger and I'm thinking about going from coil to torsion but I don't even know what I need to do or if it's even possible ... We'll anything possible but without fabricating parts. I'm thinking 4x4 upper and lowers with the 4in lift spindle steering knuckles and the stuff for the torsion bars. Has anyone ever done this and it's my daily driver so I want to be able to keep a good alignment. The biggest thing I'm wondering is will the 4x4 upper and lowers work with a 4x2 knuckle and be alineable

 

Why do you want torsion bars?

 

Easy lift and plan on doing a 4x4 swap in the distant future. When I can afford to have a play truck

 

you'd be better off selling your current truck and buying one that has torsion bars. the frames and suspension components of the two trucks are completely different from the cab forward.

and if you want to do a 4x4 swap, buy a 4x4. you will spend way too much time, effort, and money attempting to convert a 2wd to 4x4.

 

yea you cant do it with a coil sprung truck, just trade it in.

 

x3 to buying a new one. If you had an edge which already had torsion bars, going 4x4 would be fairly simple but since you have a coil spring truck, unfortunately you can't

 

I see well that shoots that project in the foot. So it won't be my deep snow truck then. Money's tite so I'll just make due then for now thank you guys.

 

^ switching a 2wd torsion bar truck was easy, 2wd coil truck would be a definate challenge. It had been done before, but I'd look into a solid axle if you are going to consider going through with all that work. Switching tranny, bolting up a transfer case and rear drive shaft is the easy part... Front end is tricky but still possible. Look at the solid axle swap section here, if you do your homework and have some fabrication skills anything can be done. Otherwise just selling and getting a 4x4 is an easy way to do it

 

Buy a '97 or older, they are easier yet to lift.

 

Given me hope lol. Solid axle is a thought. Haven't given it to much thought but I have herd of a jeep driveline and axle swapped to as short bed regular cab ranger. I will defenetly do my research. As far as selling it. It was my first truck. Just can't let it go.
