Crossmember removal with torsion bar
Crossmember removal with torsion bar
I have a 2004 Ranger Edge 3.0L 5 speed manual, and wanted to see if all I need to do to pull the transmission to replace the slave cylinder is remove the 6 side bolts for the cross member, or is there anything I have to do with the torsion bar suspension to remove the cross-member?
I posted this in the drive train category yesterday, but I am not sure if you would consider this a suspension issue or drive train, so I am posting it here to see if I can get a response.
Thanks.

I don't remember exactly how many bolts there are but one long one and two short ones on each side sounds about right. Once all the bolts are removed you should be able to remove the cross member. I am pretty sure there is a long spacer for the long bolts. Removing those may help get the cross member out of there. It is in there pretty tight and can take some effort even after all the bolts are out.
Thanks for the reply, so there is nothing to unload on the torsion bar to remove the cross member? Or there is no straps I need to put on to avoid the suspension from bending or getting damaged that you know of?
I have taken mine off twice without any problems other than having to use some force removing them and putting them back together. I use the Ford repair manual and nothing in there indicates supporting or unloading the torsion bars is needed.
