I've got a 98 Ranger 4x4, and was looking to lift it up some. A buddy of mine says that you can stick some hockey pucks between the rear axle(the pressure will hold the pucks in place, and as long as you stick to under 3" you shouldn't have to mess around with the shocks apparently). Someone we know did it with a Dakota, and i've seen the truck driving around, and it looks good, but i've never had a look underneath to see what was going on.

Would this work out and be safe?

I work at a hockey store and a couple of weeks ago I guy came in and bought pucks to do a body lift. I laughed at him and said good luck. I told him to come back in and give me an update but he never stopped back on how it went or how its holding up

 

we don't even have hockey down here so dont blame it on us

 

yah we do, i live in midland/odessa tx and we have hockey, btw im from the south, born and raised, i wasnt dissing it, just telling what it is, i dont think its that bad of an idea as long as they stay put

 

i would almost trust hockey pucks more than the nylon BL blocks, BUT NOT under the leafs? that shats crazy

 

Sounds like a bad idea, there is a reason you dont hear of it much... because it prob isnt a safe route

 

i used a rubbermade garbage can, which i cut up to seal my wheel wells after the prerunner front end conversion i put on... but using sporting equipment? now THATS unique!!!

 

I've read on forums that the hockey puck way works, but they do shift in place despite torquing em down. The cab will still move, as will the pucks. Use grade 8 hardware if you do, but I would strongly recommend the body lift kit as everything is included with it. Safe some money and get a cheap one on eBay or truck store. It will be well worth the investment, trust me and everyone else on here. Do you really want a makeshift body lift? You don't get the steering extension, radiator support/drops, and bumper relocation brackets.

I've actually seen guys successfully do a puck lift on their truck, now this is somethin i'd never do on my truck and judging by the few trucks I've seen it on, pucks are the least of their worries

 

its been done... just used under the body and not the leafs

 

if you do that i will drive to where ever you are and smack you.

 

 

haha, i got that nickname cause when i was 17 and playing hockey, i was 6'3 and 210lb farm kid, so i didnt get knocked over much... now who wanted to slap me?

anyways, would it be better if i took some 2" square tubing by like 3" high and used that instead? the whole body lift thing kinda threw me off with the amount of work, and i've heard that you tend to get noises and worse gas mileage

 

The only way you would get worse gas mileage was if you upgraded to bigger tires and didnt regear. There are many people on here with body lifts that have no problems with them. The bigger you go the faster parts wear out (CVs, etc...) but thats just life, theres more wear on the parts which means they wont last as long.

Initially it will work, but Hockey pucks will weather and split, then you are phucked

Don't use the pucks. If you want a cheap lift do the body lift. It is not a difficult install and I don't have any noises I didn't have before the lift and I have been driving with it for a year. After the body lift I actually got over 20mpg on the highway 3 different times. Which before the body lift only happened 2 times. Go figure. I will not see 20 mpg anytime soon.
