I don't beat on it, but I do use it to its abilities if/when needed.

I didn't notice any rubbing on the passenger side frame, but I did notice the rubber bushing within both upper and lower eyelets were beginning to wear. My lower eyelet bushings had actually wore quiet a bit, to the point where rubber was coming out of the eyelet, AND this actually caused the outer portion of the eyelet to sag and rub on the inner mounting bolt of the lower shock tab mount. I HAD planned to replace the shocks with fox c/o's and even have them on order from 4wheelparts (we have a local shop). I ordered them before this bilstein unit failed, which is both ironic and sad.

Speaking of Fox shocks, if anyone of you lifted guys considers replacing your rear shocks with fox shox make sure you get the bushing kit. The fox shox take a 1/2 inch bolt for their upper and lower mounting heims. The REAR upper mount bolt on our trucks is 9/16th (5/8 inch bushing with 9/16 sleeve), whereas the lower is 1/2 inch. I just ran into this problem yesterday when my new 12 inch travel fox 2.0s came in. I went to mount them and couldn't.

Going off of that, a gentleman at Off-Road Warehouse, named Nick, was EXTREMELY helpful with me over the phone this morning. His boss is probably pissed at me though cause I kept him on the phone for so long. LOL Anyhow, going off of Bill's statement, I'd like to assume that you can also purchase the fox shocks with a bushinged upper mount, but in my case my 2.0s came with heims on both ends and so I have to slightly modify the shock for mounting. The bushing kit is made by fox (link: Off Road Warehouse - Accessories Bushings ORW Fox Shocks Bushings).

I was also able to pick up 750 lbs hypercoils from Nick at ORW. They run $67.43 for the 12 inch x 2.5 ID x 750lbs coilover. I paid $135 for my first set of hypercoils (700 pounders) from some other site on-line like 2 years ago. ORW's site DOES NOT currently list that they sell hypercoils, it only lists they offer eibachs (still not bad).

Lastly, I'll try to get photos of the slight carnage I was talking about above. I have tons to do today unfortunately so I may not get photos posted today.

 

I dunno, but it looks like with the coilover fully assembled that during compression the adjuster nut and/or spring would almost get hung on the metal sticking out running verticle to where the upper mount is. Sucks either way.

at least you have a cheap solution! I think I may have looked into different mounts on the frame.

did you ruin your springs? why are you getting new ones? eibachs are the shyt

 

I think I may have. That and the spring has some road rash from when it popped out from under the truck. I thought about eibachs, and particularly since my now former bilsteins had gone down hill causing the vehicles to sit racked again. Going off of just a quick fender measure (vs chassis) I was running 42 inches from ground to top center at back, 40.5 inches on passenger side, and 38.75 on driver side. I had the springs almost fully preloaded and was still sitting on my bumpstops.

I can't wait to see the new coils on either. Shortly after typing up the previous reply I had an "oh s**t!" epiphany and realized the coilovers also come with 1/2inch eyelet heims. The RCD grade 8 bolts for their bilstein coilover are 9/16in. So I put a call back into ORW, having Nick add 2 more fox bushing kits to my order. I was really hoping to use the heims over bushings and sleves. The below site has a craop-ton of fox rebuilding parts, including "heims, reducers, and mounting hardware" and "eyelets". I may contact them once I have a steady job again, thus affording to make some tweaks. The fox bushing kits from ORW only ran me $7 and change.

I just ran the 1/2" bolt.. wasn't the best but it worked.

if i hadn't hacked off the IFS a few weeks after putting the fox's on i would have welded up the hole and took a die grinder to it to make the hole a 1/2"

 

why not get some adapters or change out the heims? but i see what you mean with not having a steady job. id be afraid those bushings may wear out. they will do fine for a while though.

I'm afraid of the bushings wearing too, especially given how the non-removable bilstein bushings look. I need to get pics, hopefully I'll have some up Sunday afternoon.

just means a lot of down time.. what bushings are you talking about? are you not getting the fox's with the heims?

 

I've already been down since the 7th. I'm tired of driving my gf's dodge neon around. I feel like a pansy. Plus I have to get up at 3:45am each morning to drive her to work (we live in Albuquerque, but she takes the train then bus to Los Alamos Labs 1.5 hour away) just so I can have transportation.

Check the link (off road warehouse) in my post from early this morning. Fox makes a bushing retrofit kit for instances when you can't use their heimed eyelets. In the case of the front end, the RCD bolts are too big for Fox's 1/2in heim. In our rear, the upper shock mount is a bolt welded to a hanger that is rivetted to the frame. The bolt is 9/16 also and in Ford's infinite wisdom the lower mount takes a 1/2 in bolt?! WTF! BUT I think you can get larger I.D. heims for the fox shocks. The question is will they fit their 2.0 shock? See link in recent post (# 31), I think it's Fox Shox Parts (goes to offroad-engineering.com).

 

1/2" is standard on all coilovers i believe.

trying to find a post but search isn't locating it for me. Do you remember the thread about the fabtech coilover conversion kit that looked exactly like the RCD kit? I have a post in it with some photos that show my bumpstops. Trying to locate them as I'm not home and can't easily just look up the link through WS_FTP.

Kings are the best coilovers. Maybe some SAWs.
