is it possible

So me and one of the guys from work yesterday got to talking about the Dana 44 that i am having put in my rig. He says that it is possible to run it with no axles, no gears no nothing in side.

Is this possible.

Depends on the type of bearing I believe and if they need the shaft inorder to not explode....
