Question about ' lifts '
Some can take this as bashing, but I just want to hear from those whom have lifted their trucks.
I see these pics of ' super lifts ' and they have this frame-thing that bolts onto the engine crossmember? So you can add tires that are bigger? And it costs what? 2500$ or something? It puts the cv's at a different angle as well?
Wouldn't it be more geometrically correct to just do a leaf/sas swap instead? Even cheaper if you know what to look for?
Sorry folks.. those super lifts with dropping the torsion bars and front cross member down seem counter-productive IMO. They also don't seem to offer the ' beef ' of a sas.

loose steering functions
handling isnt as great
needs custom parts fab/welded
Superlift if installed correctly does not change the angle of the CVs and still handles like stock when done correctly. The frame subsystem is plenty strong with the superlift kit.
And for heaven sakes, who would want leaf springs in the front of a truck??? LOL(had to say it)

If I had the fabrication skills and the tools and most important,the knowledge to make it all work right I would have done a SAS. The SL took 10hrs to install with alot of breaks,I doubt a SAS could be done unless you got 10 master fabricators helping out.
I took my aals out and de-cranked my t-bars and now the CVs look like this.....

Of course that's given that, as any premade bolt-on lift is, we have all the necessary parts (even pre-fabbed one's, with scrap metal and and iron worker for those last-minute 'improved' pieces) - and I mean ALL of the necessary parts. Leaf, coil or coilover. If I had that kind of assistance and everyone's task divided up, it could happen..

couldn't afford long travel, didn't need a SAS, and already tried taking off my torsion bars first time off-roading my 04 back on April 17, 2005.
I probably could have stayed happy with gaining the extra clearance from going 31s to 33s and keeping my stock suspension, but lik I said, I tried taking off the torsion bar off-road.
Now what gets me is lowering a truck and loud @$$ bass. The excessive bass honestly hurts when I hear it. My ear drums feel like they want to rupture. Not to come off "racy", but lowered trucks remind me of my former high school neighbor from back when I was in 4th grade. Years was 91/92, I lived in Myrtle Beach AFB, SC and our neighbors were black, listened [and loudly] to what my mom called "jungle bunny" music that would keep my sister up at night (she shared the common wall on our base housing duplex) and the guy's son drove a custom painted gold small sedan, wore gold jewlery, and just looked really tacky. Summer 92 we move to Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX and new neighbors are hispanic, son dropped out of hs, drove a lowered faded black/gray primered ranger, and had a brick thrown through his windshield for interfering with someone's woman; whom later became his wife and was one of the neatest and best weddings I've ever gone to. That family, as a whole, were great people, but I still didn't care for the image.
Too each their own, but IMHO I think lowered trucks look like fecal matter.

D. I lifted my truck for under 500 bucks! So I can run stuff over!
What people dont know is when I first bought the truck I WANTED TO LOWER IT!! But then I found out there was no lowering kit for EDGE's!!! But now I am glad I lifted it cause I see lowered Rangers all over around here and only a few lifted ones.

Mexicans tend to lower full size trucks with just smaller but wider rims/tires and then buy every chrome part they can at pepboys..
Black people tend to lower old cars, throw on some huge rims with the little stock rusted brakes still showing, add some stick on fender vents, and buy the loudest and cheapest subwoofers money can buy while at the same time hurting property value..
Rich White kids tend have mommy and daddy excessively lift brand new full size trucks with 22"s, have every single suspension component painted some bright *** color, and can barely get in the damn thing that never sees dirt..

Theres a few older black guys that have some amazing rides around here, fully restored old cars. Yeah they have the big rims but they look damn good on there. I agree with everything else though.

I agree ! right on man! but if you ever want to see the most ****ty concoction of motor vehicle, go to Hawaii, Filipino's and Samoans think putting "wolf pack" banners in old English on their ****ty 93protege or escort, with napa auto parts store spinners is the ****....ha
